Has anyone got any body piercings?

I'm sure some of you have them (had advice when I got had my eyebrow pierced).

I've got an eyebrow piercing, and a tragus piercing in my left ear (inside bit of ear iykwim).

Thinking of having either a lip piercing or my tounge.
How painful are they? Is it true that I would not be able to eat solid food for a few days with a tounge piercing, or beable to talk? (Thinking not eating is one thing....but not talking! )

Also thinking of a scafolding piercing in my right ear.

What do you think?

I had a lip piercing (lebret). My mum cried. But it was really nothing significant and didn't affect talking or anything (though I used to play with it in my teeth). Tongue piercing I think is more invasive...

My piercing has left a small scar that kids used to notice when teaching... 'ooh Miss, did you used to be a goth?'
(took it out before I did training course, though I have a friend with a tongue piercing who teaches).

Thanks for that Umlellala.

Something to think of (possible scar if it needs to be removed).

i have my navel pierced. watched a friend have her tongue pierced and she said it was the most painful thing she had ever experienced... and she has a LOT of piercings and had a child with no pain relief !

I had my tongue pierced (have to say i don't have it anymore) They spray it to numb it slightly, although that really doesn't work, then they clamp it, apparently i have quite a short tongue though, so it was a bit difficult. It REALLY hurts. They put a larger thingy in (can't remember what they're called) for a few days because the tongue swells up, then they replace it with a shorter one. You can talk, albeit with a lisp, you dribble a lot, and eating is a bit difficult for a few days. I had it done with my friend to keep her company, and she went home and had fish and chips!! Maybe i'm a wimp. I kept it in for a year, but only because of how much i suffered when it was done

I also had my belly button done and that was fine, didn't really hurt and healed very quickly.

Hope that helps a bit.

I used to have a total of 10 body piercings (now only have "normal" ear holes) but they gradually went when a) I was pregnant, b) when I gave birth, c) when I was breastfeeding and d) when I had a gallstones op and had to take everything out. I eventually found that I couldn't get them back in !

When I had my tongue pierced I had to gargle with this banana flavour anaesthetic stuff which numbed my mouth slightly - but admittedly not completely. The piercing itself seemed to involve a lot of tugging and although it hurt, it wasn't as bad as some others. I had no problems whatsoever with it healing. It took a couple of weeks to get used to speaking with it in and it felt very strange speaking but not having the pronunciation come out properly IYWIM. I dribbled a lot too for a few days and ate a lot of soup and icecream.

I have five piercings in one ear, three in the other,
I also have the top and bottom of my belly button pierced, both surivived prgnancy!
I also have 3 stars tattoo'd on the the outside of my arm by my wrist.
Most painful - Bottom of Belly button, they didnt numb it, could've punched the guy cuz he didnt warn me first!
Tattoo just felt like when your at the hairdressers and they hold the hairdryer in the same time for too long and you get a burning sensation!

jofeb04 · 15/11/2008 18:02

The lots of ice-cream may persuade me

I've heard about the clamping, luckily the piercer is the same as my tattooist, so I know him really well.

May have it done after Christmas (so I can eat loads on the day!).

I've got my tongue pierced twiced and it didnt hurt that much. Took them out 2 years ago then repierced them myself a couple of months ago and just made my eyes water abit.

Had two in my eyebrow, my nipple, my lip, ears all way up and nose but not any more. Only got my tongue done.
Miss my nipple bar but had to take it out because of bfing.

jofeb04 · 17/11/2008 16:42

Tothrottleablackbird,

Did it effect your speech at all? What was the healing process like (I am generally a good heeler - all my other piercings have heeled realy well!).

Thanks

(Thinking of having it done very early next month!).

I had a lisp for the first couple of weeks until I got used to it. Healing time...hmmm I cant really remember as I was only 15 and 16 when I had them both done properly..wasnt long though.

Geepers · 17/11/2008 17:27

I have heard that tongue piercings damage the enamel on your teeth so I would never get one done for that reason. Plus I like to eat too much and the thought of not being able to eat properly scares me ;)

filz · 17/11/2008 17:29

I have my ears peirced

ToThrottleABlackBird · 17/11/2008 17:33

Geepers, it only damages the enamel if the wearer constantly clacks the bar against their teeth. My bar doesnt even touch my teeth unless I do that.
Oh, and they have never stopped me eating anything!

Fimbo · 17/11/2008 17:34

Dd was fascinated the other day by a bloke who had massive cut out holes in his ear lobes (sorry don't know the correct term) and in one of them he had a thing that also most looked like a magnifying glass.

harleyd · 17/11/2008 17:37

lol @ cut out holes
its just a normal pierced hole thats been stretched out over time. i have one, mines only little though

Fimbo · 17/11/2008 23:30

This was more like a work of art - I have discovered is called Scapelling.

harleyd · 18/11/2008 08:08

oh is that what they do in tribes? sounds painful. mine was just done by tapering

harleyd · 18/11/2008 08:10

iykwim
too early in the morning for smooth thought process

boredveryverybored · 18/11/2008 08:16

I have a tongue piercing, have had a few over the years, nose, naval, several ear ones etc. My tongue is by far the least painful one I've had, (nose being the worst) and I had no anaesthetic at all for it.
When it's pierced they put in a large bar to allow for swelling which you wear for around a fortnight, and you can't eat solid food for a while. I think I went about a week of eating soft stuff. Talked with a lisp for about the same ammount of time.
It does heal very fast though, and I had normal sized bar in and everything back to normal within a fortnight.
Takes a bit of getting used to, having the bar in your mouth at first. I've had mine in for 10 years now, and if I take it out my speech goes all funny

jofeb04 · 18/11/2008 11:11

I'm going to get it done

(Also getting a scafolding piercing done at the same time)

Ive had lots, but don't have any now

When I loose all my weight from this baby (as its my last!) I am going to celebrate with a tattoo and piercing

Ive had nose, tongue, bellybutton twice at same time, septum (pig ring in nose - as my dad called it!, lol) The bridge of my nose, a few on my ears ....

would have gotten more but had DS and became very mumsy! lol.

ToThrottleABlackBird · 18/11/2008 11:22

Jofebe, do they let you have two piercings at once now? They never used to.
Enchanted, I was going to get more too but I also became mumsy

jofeb04 · 18/11/2008 12:53

They will allow more than one piercing as they are in two seperate places - but ... it depends how I react to the first one.

SparklyGothKat · 18/11/2008 13:02

i have 2 belly piercings (one upper, one lower) nose, upper lip, middle of bottom lip and one to the side on my bottom lip, and tongue. Of all of them I found the bottom belly one the worse, tongue was painless.
