There are plenty of places that do real nappies by mail order - Green Baby, CleanGreenNappyMachine, just google them to find out details. Totsbots do loads of different sorts, they probably have a website, also Wambamboo I imagine does as well.
It's tricky when you're starting out, because you don't really know what you like until you've tried a few, but it's expensive to buy lots of different sorts. I prefer the bamboo shaped ones with velcro fasteners myself, but they can be a pain to get dry (we have a heated towel rail, thankfully). They're very soft & absorbent. I'm not that keen on the flannel nappies, as I don't find them terribly absorbent, although I imagine they're quicker to dry & they're certainly less bulky than some nappies. I found I preferred velcro to any sort of nappy pins (nappy nippers, etc etc).
Totsbots 'fluffles' are amazingly quick to dry but enormously bulky - we sometimes had trouble pulling dd's trousers on over the top of her enormous pants!
Maybe buy three or four different types at first, plus a wrap, & see what you prefer before deciding whether to buy one kind in bulk? That's what we did, which was how I discovered that I liked the bamboo ones.
I also bought a pack of terry towelling squares which I've never used as folding nappies, but I use them all the time to mop things up - and when dd was small I used to put them underneath her when she had time with her nappy off.
Good luck! Oh yes - and no one I know uses real nappies at night, it's just too squelchy in the mornings, so don't feel guilty if you end up not using them absolutely all the time...
