How can I dry my dayghters hair without streightening her ringlets ??

Hi, my daughter has gorgeous alburn hair that falls in rinlets, when I blow dry it the ringlets usually come out and it's sometimes 2 days before they come back.
Can anyone recommend a way of drying it with out the ringlets streightening ?
Thanks

you probably need a diffuser and very wide toothed comb

I agree with cheekysealion.

I had hair like this, and I either used to leave it dry on it's own or use a diffuser.

Never brush it when it's dry, not only does it really hurt us curly girls but it makes the hair very frizzy!

Her hair sounds beautiful.

Thanks, would a wide toothed comb be enough to get the tangles out? at the moment we use a paddle brush. Her hair is quite long.

how old is she?

best thing for curly hair is to just towel dry it, not scrubbing it dry, just gently squeezing it, then leave to dry naturally.

you get the tangles out with a wide tooth comb while it's wet.

My son has quite long ringlets. I don't use a dryer. I wash it in the evening, towel dry it gently and let it dry naturally - then use a leave-in conditioner or a little bit of curl reviver to jazz it up a bit in the mornings.

mummyloveslucy · 09/11/2008 18:33

She is 3.5 and she usually has her bath before bed, so I have to blow dry it as she can't go to bed with wet hair.
She either goes to nursery in the mornings or she's out with us so it's hard to let it dry naturally. I'd have to time it right.

My ds1 has inherited my hair and has a head full of ringlets (poor boy).

The golden rule is never comb or brush it when dry. He washes it (every morning, otherwise he looks like Sideshow Bob) and combs it when it's still sopping with a wide toothed comb and leaves it to dry unless he's in a hurry when he'll use a diffuser.

mummyloveslucy · 09/11/2008 18:37

What is curl reviver, and where can I buy it?

I'd advise caution with the products as they can make hair quite dry, particularly as she is so young. Leave in conditioner is a good bet though. Do you have to wash it every day?

ruddynorah · 09/11/2008 19:04

well what i'd do then is towel dry her hair then tie it back in a bun for her to sleep. then when she wakes it'll fall into lovely loose ringlets.

you can buy curl reviver or similar in boots ir superdrug type places. i use a really basic detangler spray by l'oreal for kids on dd. she's only 2.5 so i don't really want to be using products on he yet.

mummyloveslucy · 09/11/2008 19:57

I only wash her hair once a week, as that's all it needs. It's always lovely and shiny.

i would have thought the paddle brush will just make it frizzy,

you could spray a bit of water on it in the morning to bring back the curls

ruddynorah · 09/11/2008 20:23

ditch the brush. never use a brush on curly hair.

mummyloveslucy · 09/11/2008 20:32

It's not the sort of hair that goes frizzy. It's streight at the top and falls in big ringlets. It goes streight for a few mins when brushed, but starts to ringlet again.

I'd still ditch the brush.

Curls and brushes should never meet.

elsiepiddock · 09/11/2008 20:43

Straight!

Sorry, am pedant, has been bugging me.

llareggub · 09/11/2008 20:48

Pedant you may be, but AFAIK mummyloveslucy is dyslexic.

tigi · 09/11/2008 20:55

I wear my hair curly because it looks terrible straight. If I don't wash it in the morning it looks a right mess though! On odd occasions I don't I would comb it down with an afro comb, if i have to tidy it, and then spray it with water mister, and leave to dry naturally. If I'm really short on time I half dry it with a difuser. I also use the Frizz ease styling cream on dry hair as it shines it a bit and smooths it.

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 09/11/2008 20:57

I would wash, comb through with a wide tooth comb and then dry naturally.

If you wind around your finger as it drys it will be even curlier (apparently)

mummyloveslucy · 09/11/2008 20:58

Thanks llareggub.

I don't think I do too bad concidering. (I've probubly spelt that wrong too)

elsiepiddock- I don't spell things wrong through lazyness or on purpose, I have to try hard to spell as well as I do.
I don't want people to think I'm an iddiot.
