Tell me not to bid for this Ebay item...

We can't go see it in person, or go collect it in person. Would have to pay for it by PayPal & pay for a courier to fetch it. Under £450 would be a good price if it's as described. DH thinks we should bid, but I think the seller has only 5 bits of feedback (all positive, at least), and that's too much money to trust to an unseasoned Ebayer.

Am I right?

I wouldn't be too worried about this. Look at the last two things he's sold- a bike and a car, both clearly photographed in the same way (and in the same place) as the one you want to bid on. They've gone for less, but he has positive feedback from both buyers. I think you're right to be wary, but there's nothing that really rings alarm bells about it. Don't quote me though

Is it really a bargain? were you going to buy one anyway? maybe, if the answer was yes to both, it looks like its in excellent condition...

Having read the description I'm wondering how tall (or not) you are? (Regardless of reliability of vendor! Who certainly sounds OK, btw. And the bike looks pretty good in the pic.)

Good points, tamum. I was fuzzy about what cover there might be using PayPal, so thanks pixiefish. However, seller only wants bankers draft or postal order, so not sure. The back of the bike is for our 5yr old, Janh!! Should be useable until the 9month old baby is 10-11yo. The same bike with accessories in photo (mudgard, rack, bottle cages, stoker's bars..) would cost about £780 to buy new (including p+p). I have wanted to buy one for almost 2 years, 2manyPrs...!

Tag along bikes like that one Soupy are really whippy, they don't handle that well. We do have a connecting pole like that already, too. The thing about the tandem is you can go far & fast on it.

Janh -- he's wrong about the height of the stoker (rider in back). He says it's 12" in back which is fine for DS (about 105 cm now).

The seller looks ok to me, been a member for a long time and it looks like they sell only big one of items, they have sold a car and another bike and the buyers were very happy. Go for it!

Ah, I did wonder about that - if he is right about the 12" (and it looks as if he is, although in the pic the saddle is raised really high) then of course it's OK for kids (and it is called kiddyback design). How much effort does the stoker have to contribute though? Can they coast a lot? Have image of poor little 5-yr-old legs going round in an invisible whirl of speed!

Yes, stoker can coast a lot, they can read a ruddy comic book if they fancy! You put a little bracket, that works like a footrest, on one of the bottle-cage braze-ons, so that child's legs don't have to twirl all the time.

DH was bidding at 8:am this morning but didn't get it, he was more concerned about the true condition of the time. DH wants it by Easter, we're off to spend £800 in the next week or so.

I'd go for it - ok he's not got a 'lot' of feedback (doesn't mean he's not sold/bought more - just that only 5 people have given him feedback). He's clearly photographed the item, aplogised for a mistake in the (origianl?) descriptiong and answered 3 buyers questions.
