Exeter's lovely. Went to school there- now live in Plymouth (moved here from London). School's are good, dartmoor's fabulous the sea is nearby. The city centre's pretty good- good restaurants- it's great- glad you're moving down this way- welcome!

I grew up there, and lived in E.London for 10yrs! So I think Exeter will be a bit of a contrast!BTW I do love both places for different reasons! There's plenty to do, lots of shops/places to eat etc. I still love going down to the river, the sea is about 30/40mins away too. We lived in Haevitree which is a 10min bus rice from the centre. It has a good selection of shops and probably too many takeaways now. Have relatives in Pinhoe and Whipton, both nice areas too. When I was living there, 15yrs ago (OMG!!)the areas that were a bit rough were Burnt House Lane and Rifford Rd. But that may have changed. My knowledge of the schools probably isn't relavant now, check out their OFSTED reports. Good Luck.

I went to Exeter University and loved the place! Of course student life is very different to 'real' life but it is a great city ... nice people, nice atmosphere, good pubs etc. I trained to be a teacher there but I did not actually do any of my placements in Exeter itself (taught in Paignton, Taunton and Cullompton) so I can't really help there ... but I think the schools are pretty good there ... of course there are some dodgy ones but you'll have to do a bit of research. If I were moving to Exeter I would like to live in a village outside of town ... lots of nice quaint ones to choose from!
Have a good time yoko!!

Just a thought ... when you househunt check out how many student houses are around ... would not have wanted to live next door to us if I had been a grown up with family living in Exeter in the early '90s if you know what I mean!!!!

Ghosty i know just what you mean!!i really have turned into some awful daily -mail stereotype since having a child!!my quest for peace and quiet knows no bounds!i really want to never hear "urban" music pulsating at two in the morning again!!!Now,some nice Helen Redddy or Perry Como would be another matter. Thanks everone for your input,Exeter sounds rather appealing.
