So what time does your 9 year old go to bed?

After reading the post about 12 yearolds mostly going to bed at 9 - 9.30, I am wondering whether 9-10yo's go to bed at 8?

We vary, depending on what is on that night, but I guess it averages out as 8.

More like 9pm, DS isn't actually 9 yet, either .

shinyshoes · 26/10/2008 18:49

my 8 year old goes to bed at 8.00pm, My 11 year old goes to bed at 9.00pm.

These are school nights.

Anywhere in between I would say.

geekgirl · 26/10/2008 18:51

she goes to bed at 7-7:30 ( we're mean) but stays up and read until 8:45(officially - in reality she is often still reading when I go to bed at 9:30).

MorocconOil · 26/10/2008 18:57

8pm on school nights, and at the week-end 8.30-9pm.

lljkk · 30/10/2008 16:18

That makes me feel much better, geekgirl.

hauntinghippipotami · 30/10/2008 16:23

Up at 7.30, in bed by 8 on a weeknight (but is allowed to read for a while)

ReallyspookyBCNSgrrrrr · 30/10/2008 16:24

8 pm here

sb6699 · 30/10/2008 16:50

9 pm here - but he usually reads for about half an hour before he's actually asleep.

So what do you do when they don't go to bed till 8 (or worse still, 9!)? DD is out of the sitting room by 7.30 at latest if not at a club - does that affect your TV viewing?

Or do you do wholesome family activities like board games.....

My ten year old is still up and reading this. I think I need to get a grip.

christywhisty · 30/10/2008 22:14

MY DC's never ever went to bed before 8. At 8 it was between 8 and 8.30.

worzelgummidge · 02/11/2008 06:31

My DD is up at 6am, and in bed by 7pm. She is allowed to read for 1/2 hour before lights out, but if she doesn't get a good 10 or more hours, she is like a bear with a sore head the next day.
We do make exceptions on weekends and school holidays though.

chocolateteapot · 02/11/2008 06:38

Same as Geekgirl.

foofi · 02/11/2008 07:22

My 9yo and 11yo go to bed by 8pm, for that very reason bigTillyMint

We aim for 8 with ds1 (7) when it's school the next day - but he's very good at procrastination! One night a week he has a sports training session which doesn't finish until 9, and is 45 minutes from home, so he's under strict instructions that he has to sleep in the car there and back, or he's not allowed to go.

He does recognise when he's tired though, and will voluntarily go earlier on occasion when he feels he needs to.

sweetcat · 02/11/2008 08:26

DD is 8.5 and goes between 7.30 and 8, but she is up at 6.30 every weekday morning and is another bear with sore head if tired. 9 at weekends...

CatMandu · 02/11/2008 08:33

dd is 9 and goes to bed at 8.30, lights out by 9. It recently changed from 8 to 8.30 at which point I said that dh and I were not prepared to have childrens tv on in the evening. Once dd2 and ds go to bed at 7.30 tv choice is mine (dh not back from work), it can be difficult finding things I want to watch that's not inappropriate. However, I've found watching wife swap with her has been great!

mangochutney · 02/11/2008 14:19

2 dds - 6 year old at 7.30 and will ask to go to bed if it gets much later as loves her sleep! 8 year old often up until 10pm/later at weekends on understanding we choose TV and she has to be quiet - she'll often read downstairs or plays in bedroom if we are watching grown up TV! I have always had a go to bed when you are tired rule which so far has worked OK. dd1 does seem to need a lot less sleep that her sister though. I do have friends who are horrified at how late she stays up though!!
