rushmydvds.com
My sister got a Disney DVD from there and it is fake! No holograme, you take the cover out and its got other designs on the inside, none of the security features you're supposed to look for.
Luckily she has paid through paypal but, still a bit of an arse!

Were they very cheap? and did it play ok? I understand if you are annoyed that they cheated Disney, but did they cheat you?

Winebeforepearls · 09/10/2008 19:45

onager, it cheats all the people who should be getting royalties but don't (and not necessarily just the big names) and the movie/film industry as a whole, and in the end we also end up paying more for dvds because of the extra costs.

oh, and it's illegal.

flowerybeanbag · 09/10/2008 19:47

Plus surely they did cheat Elf's sister as well as she was paying good money for a genuine Disney DVD which she did not get.

onager · 09/10/2008 19:56

Well she hasn't said what she paid for it yet which is why I asked. I was curious to see if they gave good value to the customer even though ripping off the original seller.

Btw if DVDs cost more to pay for losses AND the artists go hungry because they are not paid that doesn't quite add up. Shouldn't it be one or the other?

Not saying copyright theft is right, but just noticed that they DO say that don't they.

Winebeforepearls · 09/10/2008 19:56

Plus the money they make goes into the pockets of some nice drug dealers/arms dealers ...

BreevandercampLGJ · 09/10/2008 19:59

Pirated DVD's are theft and they are morally wrong.

It is right up there with stealing grapes.

Seriously, pirating is not just some guy in his front room, it is organised crime organising crime.

It funds drug cartels, and gun running.

onager · 09/10/2008 20:03

Oh Winebeforepearls you didnt really say that did you? I was about to post about the ridiculous claims on the start of all the DVDs I buy that copyright theft funds drug dealing. I always wince at those.

Surely you know that drug dealers make money by selling drugs. It would only need funding by commiting some other crime if it were a charity thing.

Of course it's possible that some copyright violators spend money on drugs, but then so do manufacturers of teddy bears and you wouldn't say "making teddy bears funds drug dealing"

flowerybeanbag · 09/10/2008 20:05

I don't think what she paid for it is relevant tbh. She paid x amount for product y, but instead of product y she got product z doing a poor impression of product y. If you want one thing and don't get it, you can't say it's good value however cheap it is, because that's not what you wanted in the first place.

Plus all the gun running nastiness.

shinyshoes · 09/10/2008 20:11

YABVU about the car seat.

We have a car seat, carrycot thingy. We can't possibly get the both and shopping in the car so we put the baby in the car seat for the journey and then clip her onto the frame at the other end.

Now wrong with that AFAIK.

Ice Cream at that age is a different matter, personallly, I wouldn't not at that age.

shinyshoes - I think you have jumped into the wrong thread

priceyp · 09/10/2008 20:16

Shiny's post has made me laugh out loud!
Ring trading standards about the dvd site.

Winebeforepearls · 09/10/2008 20:19

Well yes, of course it's all above board, onager. The money earned from these DVDs goes straight into proper above-board businesses (with the appropriate amount going straight to Her Majesty's R & C) and nothing illegal or dodgy is going on

Even if it doesn't fund drugs or gun-running, it goes into criminals' pockets.

shinyshoes · 09/10/2008 20:20

SHITTING NORA , I'm on the wrong thread,

Sorry.

nickytwoooohtimes · 09/10/2008 20:21

Onager, you like arguing, don't you!

onager · 09/10/2008 20:26

All profits from crime go into criminals pockets by definition lol

And note that I didn't say it was ok. Just worries me that people swallow that 'drug dealers and gun runners' nonsense. I think it's because the viewer has just sat down ready to watch a film. Relaxed and ready to believe in witches or spaceships or ghosts in chains for the duration of the film it's easy to take what it says on the DVD as true. I think the copyright notice should carry a health warning.

Boco · 09/10/2008 20:29

This reminds me of the anti piracy add from the IT crowd ...

you wouldn't go to toilet in a policeman's hat! and then send it to his grieving widow! and then steal it back again!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/10/2008 20:29

No, they were £15.99 a DVD. my sister got Beauty and the Beast from the site. It did not play well. My sister has reported the site, emailed the people and got a nice email back saying "oh, sorry, send it back and I'll send you something else".
I dont think my sister has watched it all the way through to see if it cuts off from Beauty and The Beast to some dodgy porn film, but she's not impressed.

nickytwoooohtimes, sometimes I do
Sometimes I'm even prepared to argue on the opposing side just because I think there are points worth mentioning.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/10/2008 20:32

its not about where the money goes, its more if you pay that much, you expect it to geniune. Like spending £100 on an i phone and getting a battered nokia where three of the buttons dont work.

OP posts:
onager · 09/10/2008 20:35

Elf if they charged you that much for a fake they deserve no sympathy at all so report them to ebay/paypal. I know many don't agree on principle, but if you got it on a market stall for £1 it wouldn't be so bad.

As for it cutting to a porn film part way that's not likely to happen.

Boco! thank you for that! brilliant

Winebeforepearls · 09/10/2008 20:36

Onager, I don't think I've ever seen that warning at the start of DVDs - perhaps it's just Disney that has them (don't watch many of those).

But my point is that if you discover you've bought a dodgy DVD you should a) be pissed off you've been ripped off and report it, and b) regret that your money has not gone to the appropriate people.

nannyL · 09/10/2008 20:38

elfonthetopshelf

the disney DVDs were buy 1 gwet 1 free (at less than that price) in asda last week

if go and age 2 disney dvds from asda if i were her

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/10/2008 20:40

My sister has reported it, but I feel bad as I found the site! I had been looking on Ebay for this DVD (we'd missed it when it was released, but have gotten the others since) and kept getting outbid so searched some other sites, this was one of them.
My sister shouldn't lose money as she has raised it as a dispute with Paypal, but not sure if/when she'll get it back.
I know a lot of people who dont mind paying a couple of quid for a copy DVD (tbh, DH has suggested he copies the ones we have so that DD can use them without damaging them!) but £16 is a bit much! I got SATC dvd for less than that!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/10/2008 20:42

NannyL, my sister went into Disney and got two DVD's on the bogof offer, she got her Oliver and Company and Mulan. Beauty and the Beast is not generally stocked anywhere anymore.
Will get a 2nd hand copy from Amazon/Ebay.
