When threads get out of hand and ruin your day

I have been posting on the breast feeding thread and became involved in what felt at the time like a big argument with another poster. I'm not going to name them because this isn't the point of this thread. Anyway, yesterday I was upset about it, it was on my mind, I felt it was personal, and it felt massive. I went to an appointment at the consultants in the afternoon with my 3 year old son and was given some pretty devastating news about his eyesight. To cut a long story short my son is blind in one eye and is going to need major surgery. Obviously news like this puts everything into perspective for you, and the reason I am posting this is to say to everyone, Mumsnet is here to encourage, support and help each other. Life can sometimes be really crap and we don't need to come on here and make it worse for each other. I feel really silly that I have spent so much time on here, and even sillier for getting into a stupid meaningless spat with someone I will never meet and whose life I know nothing about. Before you post something to someone who you don't know, try and not make it personal. You don't know what sort of day they are going to have, you don't know what sort of day they have had. Its easy to be a bitch on here because its anonymous. This is my last post for a while. I'm not flouncing or anything silly like that, I just have a bit more on my mind at the moment and want some clear head space. To eveyone who I've chatted to over the last few months, I've really enjoyed your company and I will be back at some time when I have sorted things out. In the meantime, be good to each other!

Sorry to hear about your son, leglebegle. Hope the surgery goes well.

I only just found this because I'm slow! Best of luck to your little one legle, I'll be thinking of you! You're being very optimistic and sensible about the whole thing

Good luck with the patching and surgery lb. FWIW, I am an optometrist and most children when caught at such a young age do really really well. There are also visual therapy exercises that you can do as he gets older. I don't know about the UK but here in the states there are some optometrists who just do pediatrics and vision therapy.
In the crap mum dept. - two nights ago I was tired, under the weather and home alone with ds. Took a moment to veg in front of the TV while ds was running around. Next thing I hear is a big thump! He had climbed onto the trash bin then to the bathroom counter and fell off. Big goose egg, I felt truly horrible. Of course, he's fine now but still...It's tougher on us than them to recover from these things I think!

Leglebegle - very sorry to hear about your DS - and will be thinking of you over the next few months.
I know what you mean about getting hooked on posting and threads - Before Xmas, I reduced my 'habit' a bit (back up now!!) by making a rule only to post on threads where I had specific experience to contribute - and to answer any q's about talipes / orthotics etc that crop up on the SN boards, as that is my experience with DS.
Would a similiar code help you?
