Oh but Gwenick, they do.

And that's why it's an elective dictatorship, not a democracy.

Surestart. It's made a massive difference to the quality of life for LO's in my area. Loads of free courses for parents too.

OldieMum · 02/03/2005 23:33

Caligula - I'm not commending Labour, or their aspirations. I'm just worried that we'll all get so carried away with criticising them that we end up with a Tory government.

flexible working
increased teachers wages
houses for key workers
Income give to do teacher training

No way. They're still at least one election off winning anything. He's still too something of the night, Widdy might have been media-friendlied but the majority of voters are old enough to remember what they're really like. Young people don't vote. Probably just as well! (Whatever happened to John Redwood? They're keeping him out of the way aren't they?)

All their policies are essentially the same as Labour ones. There is nothing striking or different about them enough to make anyone vote for them who isn't a loyalist anyway. A few tinkerings here and there isn't enough to make voters turn out in the numbers they need to, to vote against the government and for the Tories. 1979 and 1997 were vision thing elections. Howard and co still haven't got the vision thang.

Now, where's Ladbrokes?

Have they actually introduced any houses for keyworker schemes? I keep hearing about them, but every time any of my keyworker friends enquire about them, they're fobbed off and immediately discouraged.

The last I read, was that they were suggesting building sort of halls of residence for nurses which they could afford to get mortgages on. Call me conservative, but if I were a nurse with a couple of kids, I wouldn't think a glorified hall of residence was a suitable accomodation for my family. But perhaps I'm very grand.

Sorry, I'm on the wrong thread, we're supposed to be listing good things here, aren't we! Oops.

hercules · 03/03/2005 08:46

I'm sitting in one now! Several of my work colleagues also have one. In fact, all the houses around me contain teachers.

Caligula · 03/03/2005 09:53

Which area d'you live Herc? All the ones I know are in London and for one reason or another it has just not been practicable (I can't quite remember the ins and outs of why not though).

Bozza · 03/03/2005 11:31

Jools we are just listing the good things on this thread. I think that you will find the bad things thread is somewhat longer. Also bad things have strayed onto this thread.

OldieMum - you sum it up pretty well I think!
