promising to be sleaze free then being beset by scandals and not getting rid of the perpetrators

spacedonkey · 02/03/2005 14:09

ahem

the previous tory government had a far worse record for sleaze

Building anywhere and everywhere in the south east but still not providing quality affordable housing.

iota · 02/03/2005 14:11

sd - agreed, but at least they sacked all theirs.

turquoise · 02/03/2005 14:11

But wasn't Tory sleaze more about bonking whereas Labour's is cronyism? Worse IMHO.

spacedonkey · 02/03/2005 14:12

aren't labour introducing a new affordable housing thing in the south east to help people get on the property ladder?

I actually liked teh Lab gov when they came into power, but now I hate them and I hope they lose.

spacedonkey · 02/03/2005 14:13

I suppose I should declare my hand and say that it seems to me (and I'm not well informed I admit) that the good outweighs the bad. And I still haven't forgotten what the tories did to this country.

OP posts:
Gwenick · 02/03/2005 14:14

not listening to what the public (who put them there) wanted on the war

Pushing through a bill using the parlimentary act which they've also spent most of their time in power discussing - hunting (I agree with the bill as it happens but not the way it was pushed through)

Increasing taxes (not income tax but putting taxes onto things) and then pretending to give it all back to us in tax credits

MRSA has increased - hospitals are dirtier and the care is worse because of the added beurocracy (sp)

Wants to introduce pointless ID cards

Introduces 'new things' - such as new NMW just as elections are about to take place - coincidence - I don't think so - more like voter manipulation

Failed to tackle the teaching, nursing and policing numbers adequately - they give us all these wonderful figures about how many 'new' x, y z's they've got - but convieniently forget to tell us how many have left

edam · 02/03/2005 14:14

Tuition fees
Imprisonment without trial
Am truly ashamed of my country for these two.

Lapdogging sounds appropriately sordid.

edam · 02/03/2005 14:14

How could I forget ID cards???

motherinferior · 02/03/2005 14:15

Not speaking up against torture, at the very best (DP has actually ahem gone and joined the Lib/Dems on account of this )

Not being exactly, you know, socialist.

iota · 02/03/2005 14:16

spin, and Tony's 'Presidential' style

triceratops · 02/03/2005 14:17

Blair telling ken livingston to apologise for being a prat even if he didn't believe it. It just epotomised his level of insincerity to me. It doesn't matter what you believe just tell the public what you think they want to hear.

And all those freebie holidays, he and his wife are such stereotypical money grubbing lawyers. They deserve Carole Caplin.

I quite like Gordon Brown by the way.

iota · 02/03/2005 14:17

Increasing the tax on petrol

Bozza · 02/03/2005 14:17

Increasing pensions by whatever ludicrous amount it was. 75p?

Bozza · 02/03/2005 14:18

All the business with Red Ken full stop. Expelling him from the party and then when he got to be mayor anyway deciding they would have him back.

Gwenick · 02/03/2005 14:20

1997 - said they wouldn't introduce unversity tutition fees but did anyhow

2001 - said they wouldn't introduced topup fees......... who's to say we can trust them on that?

1997 - Labour promised not to privatise the Tube - one year later they announced the privatisation of it.

Bozza · 02/03/2005 14:21

Not paying teachers/nurses etc enough.

Given everything else I've said I will have to say not putting income tax up. Because how would they pay for all the things I think they should do?

gingerbear · 02/03/2005 14:25

"All right, but apart from sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?"

Sorry, couldn't resist that.

SenoraPostrophe · 02/03/2005 14:25

PFI

It's an absolute scam. The "preferred bidder" system, whereby one company basically gets chosen before they've costed everything, gives poor value for money and turns out to be illegal, loads of new hospitals and schools have been late / smaller than planned / more expensive than thought etc.

Plus failure to renationalise the railways when privatisation clearly isn't working and they had the perfect excuse with the Railtrack thing. They say it'll be expensive, but it won't if they do it sensibly (i.e. just let the existing franchises lapse).

(if we could post pics you'd be able to see the steam coming out of my ears)
