Any suggestions? We want some things like Organised Mum & junior Geo which we can sell for our own profit rather than just selling tables to others IYSWIM.

I've seen that recommended elsewhere too, Ceolas. It sounds like a lot of effort to organise though (thinking of how to persuade people to volunteer)

(but £2000! !!)

I think the most difficult bit was the arm twisting necessary to get enough volunteers. But we did a 2 hour stint each. It's a lot to ask people if they have a busy weekend, but well worth it for the amount we raised.

Beware though, we had to book a slot with the supermarket months in advance.

ooh ooh Lapin - I am in Bracknell and our School Fair is 6 December.......

why did you ask Soupy??

I must remember to find out about the license.

Am currently organising one for next week and we have 'Over the Hedge' for Y1,2 and 3 and Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium for Y4,5 and 6.

Morrisons have popcorn on offer and Tesco have just lowered their price on popcorn.

We had a jamjar thingie at our Xmas bazaar last year. One of the mums organised it as it had been done at their previous school. Basically you provide jars and the children can take one (or more) home and decorate it and fill it with things. They bring back in and you have a table at the bazaar and sell them. I did 3 with just bits and bobs I found around the house. Things like mini mars bars, sweets, little bracelets/toys etc. All the children seemed to like doing them and then they all tried to buy their own one back!

Majeika · 23/09/2008 10:45

ooh good idea Buda.

Rather than glass jars though you could use the pint glasses sold at Macro that are plastic.

Must remember that for our next meeting.

Buda · 23/09/2008 10:50

The jars have lids though - so things don't fall out and they can be decorated.

johnbarrowmanlovesme · 23/09/2008 11:32

I like the film idea. Do you have different nights for the different age groups? One things I would worry about though, don't you get some of the kids messing about, running around etc? Spoiling it for everyone else. We always get this at the discos the PTA hold but obviously it doen't matter in that situation.

SoupDragon · 23/09/2008 11:40

We did a film night in the hall and I don't remember the children messing about (although I wasn't there, the chair would have told me!) If we can do it via DVDs and the white boards though, we'll try to have small groups in a few class rooms watching an appropriate DVD. Chair really liked the idea of selling it as a late night shopping opportunity!

Jars could work well except our school has about 700 pupils and I don't think we have that many jars We have a mufti day where they have to bring in either a jar of sweets (KS1) or a bottle (KS2) for tombolas.

IMHO cakes sell the best of anything

SoupDragon · 23/09/2008 11:48

-nail art for the girls

  • shooting gallery (need to buy one of those duck shooting galleries like this?, but soon pays back

(or use tin cans and balls or soemthing?)

johnbarrowmanlovesme · 23/09/2008 12:25

I considered doing this at a school fair but left it too late to sort out knitti clothes. I think they needed 4 to 6 weeks notice to get the stuff to you and i can't exactly remember whether you had to become a "rep" which I wasn't interested in as it was a one off.

Majeika · 23/09/2008 20:05

With my tone of voice the children do NOT mess around!! they are warned that if they do then their name goes on a list and they will not be allowed to come again!!

We have 3 rooms in Y4 and films like Ratatouille and Alvin and the Chipmunks were SOOO popular we did the same film for all.

It does get hot so no coats or jumpers. parents collect at 5.30pm so you have enough time for a drink/interval/toilet and then go down to the hall to be collected.

So easy and sooooo much money!

Majeika · 23/09/2008 20:07

also do

www.bag2school.com

they come and collect your jumble and give you money for it - so much easier than a jumble sale!

johnbarrowmanlovesme · 24/09/2008 16:54

I brought up the film night idea at PTA meeting last night & the Reception Teacher said we wouldn't be get the littlies to sit & watch a DVD for one & a half hours We are going to give it a go as it does seem like pretty easy money. I like the idea of the list for the bad bad children that won't be allowed to come again if they misbehave

Majeika · 25/09/2008 16:41

TBH we have missed out the reception children on the next one as they are very young and it is a long day for them

however on the last film we did they were fine and not as much trouble as the older ones!

johnbarrowmanlovesme · 25/09/2008 16:57

How do you go about the bag packing one then? Do people donate money wghen you pack their bags?

Can't say I would fancy doing this one but £2,000 in one day is brilliant & a lot less organising than a Summer fete I'm sure.

Majeika · 25/09/2008 16:58

I dont think I could bear the bag packing one!!
