Women all around the world carrying their babies.

no an enormous bump doesn't help!

It does take a lot of practice, but it's worth it in the end, especially when you find a sling you are really comfortable with

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 30/08/2008 14:29

Has anyone used the ring sling or freedom sling.
Are they any good?

foxytocin · 30/08/2008 15:26

putting on the front wrap cross carry with a Moby

thorstein og aurora.

AnnVan · 30/08/2008 15:56

Just spent some time watching some vids on youtube, and found them rather more helpful than the picture perfect instructions that came with the wrap. It's definitely the bump causing the issue with the tie. And not having anything to put in the sling once it's tied. I think I'll be fine once figure is somewhat back to normal. At the mo have ginormous forward projecting belly!

hertsnessex · 30/08/2008 16:02

gorgeous pics, thanks for sharing

Ready4anotherCoffee · 30/08/2008 16:40

thank you for sharing, I was brave enough to try the back carry as I did the shopping today, not sure I have the knot sorted yet though!

charchargabor · 30/08/2008 16:58

Hope noone minds me butting in! I've got a storch which I love. DD is 13 months but still pretty small so is fine on my front. I can tie it quite well, but her legs always look wonky when I've finished. She seems comfy and secure, it just looks a bit crooked! Has this happened to anyone else?

I love that album btw, thanks for posting it. I've just started using my mei tai on my back, and I love it! DD is quite and she's not in the way when I'm trying to do dishes or shop. My mei tai is cream, but I'm planning to customise it so it looks a bit like this Just got to get some dye, fabric and beads. Would love a BabyHawk or Ergo though, but money isn't there at the mo.

belgo · 30/08/2008 17:00

that picture looks very pretty charchagabor

charchargabor · 30/08/2008 17:05

It's from the same website, but it's my favourite! Just a bit bored with the carrier looking the same all the time!

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 18:29

CCG You could make different back panels and attach with Velcro!?

charchargabor · 30/08/2008 18:44

Oooh good idea MNP! Then I could have a carrier to suit my mood I sound really sad don't I?

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 18:46

Not at all CCG you can match with your outfit, i noticed on the photo reel several of the womens' slings were of the same fabric as their dress.

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 18:47

You could have seasonal/holiday ones like christmas, valentines, easter, halloween

charchargabor · 30/08/2008 19:47

Yes I saw them with the matching outfits and thought it was quite cool. Can't see myself quite fitting in round here though! I think you've been thinking too much about this Think I will do that though, I'm going to dye the sling brown too so it is easier to match the fabrics.

foxytocin · 30/08/2008 20:29

Jazzing up your MT sounds like an excellent idea, CCG. If I was creative like that, it would have saved me a fortune.

charchargabor · 30/08/2008 22:08

Thanks foxytocin. I just hope my sewing skills live up to my imagination! Hopefully it'll stop me thinking about how much I want an Ergo, a Beco obi, a podaegi, a Babyhawk... Why are they so expensive, and why am I so broke?!

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 23:01

have you checked out eBay CCG make a paper cut out of each stage/fabric piece so you can fine tune it before attacking the fabric

I do think about it as have thought on how the make my ring sling more me friendly, the one thing i am thinking to do is stitching on an adjustable webbing strap with D rings or slide buckle on the upper rim so i can tighten that without having to tighten the whole sling as when current baby falls asleep it is a pain to loosen it so she can recline into the cradle hold from the side sitting position she favours. That way the sling could be looser but she would still get the support and would be secure.

charchargabor · 30/08/2008 23:14

Ooh that's a good idea MNP. Now I know for sure I couldn't do that! I'm ok with rectangles and triangles, but that's about it. I've got a ring sling but I never really got on with it tbh. DD hated to be reclining when she was a baby, and I didn't notice the more upright holds. I have tried it with a hip carry now she's older, but whenever I try and adjust it it slides up to my neck, and then it's too tight to move back onto my shoulder. Maybe I'll try and get the hang of it in time for the next baby!

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 23:32

sounds like you need to either loosen it a little or lift her weight in the new position so you can pull the shoulder pad back down, maybe both.

Couldn't do what CCG make a paper pattern?

Doodle out what you want and then divide into sections so base colour, stripes or shapes that go over that and so on, each piece of paper will then be the shape it needs to be in fabric.

charchargabor · 30/08/2008 23:35

No I couldn't do what you want to do with your ring sling! Although admittedly, I'm not very good at making patterns either! I rush too much so I usually end up with wonky lines lol!

I might try the ring sling out again then, and try what you've said. I would quite like it as a pop in and out sling now that DD's walking, maybe to take to the park or something. Thanks for your advice!

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 23:41

In that case it can be loose, i pull mine off shoulder so more on the corner/joint and upper arm to tighten for using that way.

Imagine your ring sling, i am going to sew on a length of cotton webbing with either a double D ring or slide buckle & D ring like on a handbag strap from the top where you tighten/loosen to just passed halfway, making some beltloops so it stays in the right place.

See easy

charchargabor · 30/08/2008 23:48

I can see what you're talking about now, sounds like a good idea! I worry about the ring sling being too loose, I think it's because I'm used to the mei tai having the strap underneath her legs. I probably have got it too tight actually, because it's murder trying to get her out again! I'll try it tomorrow a bit looser and see if I can crack it.

Paddlechick666 · 31/08/2008 19:14

foxytocin, the cwtshti is definately for sale. i've just not done anything about actively selling it

congrats on the pg, i didnt realise you were. bummer about the spd, i had it and it's horrid.
