Dust Issues - Calling Domestic Goddesses!

I don't know where to begin here. I guess the easiest thing to start with is, I was raised by wolves. I do not understand cleaning etc, I am rubbish at it. I have a cleaner who deals with all the basic regular stuff, thank god.

But I have big clutter issues. Which I'm trying to sort out. Resulting in big nasty dust issues.

Hence the question. If you've just stirred up a bunch of dust in a room, how do you get all the dust out? I know decluttering will solve the problem long-term, which I'm doing, in steps, but right now, how do I de-dust the air?

I've vacuumed a bit, and left all the windows open ... any other tips?

bowl of water?

Really? Ok. Near the dustiest bits?

It's not incredibly dusty in there at the moment, but it's our bedroom, and my initial moving-stuff-around attempts yesterday, at like 3pm, meant it was still dusty enough at bedtime to make sleeping hard ... whoops.

I hate carpets.

I would think you'll have to let it settle and then use a damp duster to pick it up.

Think Cadbury's right. Hoover now - open all windows - then a wet dust later on.

Blee!

Can I wet dust carpet? Or hoover it again?

Hmm, this makes the baby-steps method of decluttering a bit of a hassle, particularly for the bedroom. Maybe massive blitz to do the rest of it. I hadn't realised how much dust books hold ...

Now to work out how to do a massive blitz with a 5-month-old and a 3-year-old ...

Thanks guys.

Are there any air treatment machine type things that remove dust? That work?

No. Don't wet dust the carpet. Hoover that with a nozzle to get it all up after you have damp dusted.

Ah, cool. The idea of wet carpet had me a bit worried.

I think I will stick to baby steps, but only do our room in the morning before the cleaner comes, to save myself this hassle.

I think DS1 is planning to learn to clean from the cleaner, which is an excellent plan, as it will save him from my raised-by-wolves issues.
