Girlie nights, are they becoming a thing of the past?

Does anyone think that girlie nights are becoming a thing of the past? I personally lurrrrve them, I get a few friends round and lots of wine and nibbles and sit and have a general giggle. I never put tele on and always have music to the eighties which everyone seems to love. Every so often I arrange them around live bands on Sky, boy bands only. Dh is great about me having them as he knows how much I look forward to them, he's usually either at work or goes upstairs and watches tele in bed and keeps a check on dd1 & dd2.

Am I just showing my age (30) by wanting comfy nights in rather than going to smoky expensive pubs?

I must admit that i went out clubbing with some friends a while back and at midnight i had had enough and wanted to come home, (i'm 28). Once a year or so my best mates and i have a bros night when we listen to old bros songs and watch the video's we taped of them and remember how sad we were at the time to love em.

Chiccadum · 07/02/2003 20:32

I loved Bros, I had every single, my bedroom was covered top to bottom in posters, rossettes and flags etc, I even had grolsch tops on my shoes. I was so in lurrrrve with Craig Logan (who is engaged to Danni Minogue by the way). I am a very big fan of Westlife now and have all their albums and have so far refrained from having their posters on my bedroom wall. I don't think dh would appreciate waking up with 4 young studs staring at him (I think Bryan McFadden is a bit pug faced to be honest)

It was usually either matt or luke that people fancied, but not craig (has recently split up with dannii). I had the grolsch tops on my shows as well. I was proud to be a brosette.
I loved luke and one day i was going to marry him.!!!.
Remember singing silent night with matt and holding for the long bit at the end.

My mate used to tape everything they went on and it really is a good laugh, hard to believe they were only 19 at the time.

Seen Luke recently in a film (doesn't do anything for me now though).

Bet you had ripped jeans as well.

Thats it got to arrange another bros evening soon.

Chiccadum · 07/02/2003 20:50

I didn't realise they had split up, shows you how much I watch tele and read papers. I never had the ripped jeans but I had the jeans with patches all over. Did you ever go through the faze of wearing 2 different coloured fluorescent socks?

Apparantly one of the twins (could be Matt) has been in Blade 2, acting as a vampire and he was very very good and is now quite sought after in the film industry.

Think that was luke. No i didn't do the sock thing.

I only read recently about them splitting up, in one of those celebrity mags. I didn't even know they were together.

Do you rememeber Brother Beyond, I liked Nathan from that,

Chiccadum · 07/02/2003 21:03

Ooh yes, don't you think he looked like Mark Lamarr or is my mind playing tricks on me. I also used to like big fun.

Can you remember Sonia, I was always in love with her hair. What a gorge colour.

Cannot believe i owned up to 2 different colour socks.

What about the sugar pink lipstick with green and blue eyeliner

OP posts:
breeze · 07/02/2003 21:07

Yes to the make-up.

I thought Sonia was pretty, love high cheek bones.

Totally looks like mark lamarr.

Went from aha (morton, my very first crush) to
bros (luke)
& then new kids on the block (can't even remember his name,) not donnie, joe, danny but one of the other two.

Remember the name big fun, were they one hit wonders like living in a box (well they had 2 hits)

Chiccadum · 07/02/2003 21:11

Loved living in a box (We close our eyes). Like NKOTB too, can you remember all that house music, it used to do my head, I was absolutely enthralled with Rick Astley I used to dance round the living room to his songs.

Big Fun sang 'Don't blame it on the sunshine, don't blame it on the moonlight, don't blame it on the good times, blame it on the boogie.

Did you ever like Wet Wet Wet, I always hated them as they were the rivals of Bros, must admit i like Marti Pellows music now.

OP posts:
breeze · 07/02/2003 21:20

Yes i likes marti pellow too, and thought it was cool when they said F*ing on one of their songs.

Must admit that i bought the rick astley tape, and loved and did all the actions to "never gonna give you up", cant believe i am admitting to some of these, i am sure if my friend megg reads this she will take the mickey tomorrow.

Friend just told me it was Jordan that i liked from nkotb.

I loved jason and kylie as well at this time and especially for you was my fave, any angry andersons song 'i'm falling' (which was the wedding for scott and charlene)

Chiccadum · 07/02/2003 21:31

Can you remember Wig Wam Bam, I loved that song, I also liked John Farnham 'You're the voice',
Erasure 'Voulez Vous', Cameo 'Word Up' (Mel B did a horrible version a couple of years ago), Funboy three and bananarama 'it aint what you do'.

Dexy's midnight runners 'Come on Eileen', was on at the first party i ever went to and got disgustingley drunk on cider, eugh

You have really got me going on all the old songs.

Can you remember Sinitta?

OP posts:
breeze · 07/02/2003 21:41

I remember Sinita (toy-boy), you have brought back some memories.

i also liked Soul II Soul, kenny Thomas, Remember Sydney Youngblood, Inner City, Klf, Shamen, and Snap.

I am off to bed now and i know i will not be able to get rick astley out of my head.

Enjoyed our trip down memory lane, speak soon fellow brosette.

Chiccadum ? there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with being 30 ? wish I was (again) ? or wanting comfy nights in with girly mates. Sounds like a much better night than one wasted in some smokey, expensive pub!

emsiewill · 07/02/2003 22:20

Don't like to be picky, but it was actually Go West who sang "we close our eyes".

Furball · 08/02/2003 20:31

My friend had a real Girly Girly night, she invited about 8 people round, a beautician, a reflexologist and an Indian Head Masseur. Brilliant!! We all sat round drinking (and eating of course!) whilst we put our names down for different treatments of our choice at a very reduced price. When's the next one is what I say and hubby is all to keen as i come back having spent a quarter of what a salon would charge.

Chiccadum · 08/02/2003 20:48

Emsiewill, you are it was Go West who sang that, my head was a shed last night. Duhhhhhhh

I cannot believe that some woman have not been to girlie nights, i became friends with someone whose husband works with my dh and she said she'd never been on one, as it was I was having one the following week, she came to it and really really enjoyed it, she keeps asking now when the next one is, I think the next one will be a virgin-vie one next (cosmetics etc)

DH has downloaded some Human League, keep listening to it on the CD in the kitchen, remember his weird hair cut.

I love girlie nights, I lived with the same gang of girls for about 4 years when newly qualified, had a brilliant laugh, even evenings in front of the TV, bitching about celebs, debating if she was still with him etc.,and of course we never missed the soaps. Ate loads of chocolate, and young enough not to put on any weight.
We also used to clear all the furnature back and do The Jane Fonda Workout, and end up with the giggles.
