How do I get my kids into modelling - a beginner's guide please

Of course my kids are THE MOST gorgeous of all on the planet (!) so I'd like a beginner's guide of how to go about registering them with modelling agencies and what it involves? Which are recommended and which to avoid and how tied are you to them when you sign a contract? Is it worth it or is too much hassle/stress/pressure for the LOs?
Thanks.

Where do you live if in London you need to apply to the top 4 agencys which are bruce and brown, kids london, urban angels and mot models.
If not in london tell me which area nad I could recommend somewhere closer.
It's not stressful for the lo my ds loves it but it can be stressful for you before you get jobs you will have to go for a casting which isnt paid and you will be asked sometimes last thing monday evening to be at a casting first thing the next morning.
One thing that you have to deal with straight away is rejection it doesn't mean your children are not beautiful but really good agencies have 1000's of applications and accept about 2%.
Saying that when you do get a job you are always treated well food, drinks, lovley people ect, and it is a great feeling when you see your lo in a magazine, billboard or on the tv.

btw my ds is the most beautiful on the palnet(!)

Some castings will be in school hours and so will some jobs.
Hopefully there head teacher will be understanding and if you maybe offer to take some of the work with you and get them to do it whilst waiting or in the evening they may be ok with it.

Hi Bogie. What do you know about Manchester? DD was provisionally accepted by Tuesday's Child and Kidz, but I've not followed them up as there's a fee of £100 to £150. I've been told by Boss to wait till October when they'll look at applications and I've just contacted Urban Angels North. Any others I could consider? Was I wrong to ignore the other 2? Thanks

bogie · 19/08/2008 22:19

I would wait for boss and urban angels north I wouldn't join somewhere that had high joining fees.

UniversallyChallenged · 19/08/2008 22:26

I joined Scallywags and even though we got a good job (He's the Big Chris model on Roary- sorry shall have to stop boasting ) I am still a lot out of pocket as they ask for big sign up fees, though they are a good genuine company.
And if you are far away from London it can take £40 - £50 to get to the castings.

Definatley go for the agencies that take their fee from your LOs wages

Are there any good agencies in the South West?

I applied to a few of the big four but they said that they wouldn't consider accepting a child of my sons age from so far away (Dorset to London 2 hours on a train). He was 6 months at the time.

I've been stopped a few times about ds and people always comment on his eyes and how gorgeous he is. I think he's gorgeous because he's my son. I think it's a good way to save some money for uni fees or first car if i can get him into it.

Thanks Bogie.

Hi again. DD has just been provisionally accepted by Boss in Manchester. They're also charging nearly £100 for photo shoot and inclusion on their site. Does this sound reasonable. I'd assumed they wouldn't charge anything? Also, if you get to interview stage, do they reject a significant proportion of children?

bogie · 21/08/2008 08:38

LittleMissBliss I don't know any agencies in the south west sorry I would say if you don't mind the travelling try some more london agencies.

Puffling do you get the prints from the photo shoot? If so it wouldn't be that bad to pay that, I know boss do get work (not as much as the london agencies but they get a fair bit) ds has worked with children and adults from boss before.
I am not sure how many they accept after interview stage my guess is they will base it on the photo shoot and see if the child is comfortable having their picture taken.

My daughter got short listed for a casting for urban angels? we went up a couple of weeks ago and they seemed to really like her but you can never tell. They said i would hear on the 5th which was yesterday if she has or hasnt been successful. I am a little concerned as havnt heard anything at all. Is anyone else with urban angles could you tell me if anyone else has experienced this or maybe she hasnt got in?

many thanks

preghead · 08/07/2010 13:59

Hi there, we went along too and were also told teh 5th. But we got called saying tehy would like to go ahead with us on Tuesday the 6th so possibly they are still calling people and it was anytime after the 5th. Good luck

The guys who charge £100 for a "shoot" are predators who are preying on your (probably mistaken) conviction that your child will photograph exceptionally well.

If your child does photograph well (and no, you can't tell so you can stop your protesting) then the agency will be delighted to pay for headshots because they'll be able to make a LOT of money out of your child and they'll have photographers on their books already.

£100 will get your child onto the scummy, ratty fringes where they'll be exploited and prodded and their only lasting reward wil be bad memories and a very embarrassing legacy of photos which their teenage school chums will later love to bully them about.

If you can live with that, go ahead.
