Depends on how much you have to spend and what sort of accommodation you want. House prices have really rocketed over the past few years, and terraced houses are fetching around £150,000. I think that is still correct.
I'm bath born and bred but have ended up in Bristol.

We have approx £250,000 which will buy a terraced / semi in camden but I dont know the areas at all. Where isn't a good place to live may be a better Question.

Bath is a very nice place to live. I come from the Bear Flat/Oldfield Park area which is nice, further out is Odd Down, Combe Down is very select, as is Lansdown. Camden is nice too.
Areas to avoid Snow Hill, (Camden is above), parts of Southdown and Twerton can be a bit rough.
Wouldn't really know about schools now, I left Bath 13 years ago.

We moved to Bath from london 5yrs ago and have never regretted it. I'd agree with kkgirls comments. We live in Bathwick,3 bed semi, large-ish garden, flat walk into town takes 10mins (most of Bath is on a hill so there are v. few "flat" walks)!Houses in this area are going for about 250,000 to 280,000 depending on how many bedrooms as lots have loft conversions. With schools, Primarys-ours go to Bathwick St Marys as it's our local but it is one of the top 10 primarys in the U.K.! Others that I know a bit of are Widcombe, Bathampton, Newbridge are all good. Secondarys I'm not so clear about although lots of people rave about Ralph Allen. Private schools The Paragon and King Edwards.

Theres loads to do for kids in and around Bath and people were v. friendly when we moved. Have to stop now kids yelling in the distance, will try to post again later.......

There's plenty of child friendly places to eat,Victoria park with BIG childrens play area, lots of other parks, river and canal walks, plenty of sporty things. Shops-Sainsburys, Waitrose and Safeway. My dds do/have done singing "club", gym, dance lessons, swimming courses, summer art clubs, theatre workshops etc, there's lots for them if you look.

On the down side, parking in most of Bath in a right PITA, and expensive, can get full of tourists ( but they can be avoided if you know how!), property is pricey and Bath has its fair share of snobs.

Now where did I put that Tourist Board application form??

Wow

Its nice to hear people talk about my home town so fondly. I visit every week, my parents still live in the house I was born in and my brother lives there.
My dream if I didn't work in Bristol would be to have one of those three storeys in First Avenue near Bear Flat

Just remembered this one- www.cityofbath.co.uk
Sorry can't do links!

Also if you do start looking at properties, nag the Estate Agents for any properties coming up in the area you want. We nagged ours every couple of days, they get so fed up we got to see our house before it came on the market and snapped it up! HTH.
