LL great pub in Stoke Fleming just outside Dartmouth, called The Green Dragon, run by a very eccentric couple who I used to work for.

Try Alf Resco's for a great breakfast in dartmouth. Tables are usually booked up in the summer so call ahead if you can.
Not expensive, just really good and nice atmosphere.

Might be worth checking out trains that stop in ivybridge.

Just a warning - my oldest son nearly drowned there in the outdoor, unsupervised pool. This was about five years ago when he was about 6. I was faffing with some chairs and turned around to find him looking up at me through the water looking rather sad. Horrible moment necessitating fully clothed immersion of father.

Do check that the shallow end of the pool is shorter than your child's head-height. This pool was fairly old, had no warnings or safety hook/scoop, had no depth markings and was unmanned, hopefully it has been adapted/scrapped.

If you want a nice meal our in Ashburton go to Agaric.

My favourite pub in that part of Dartmoor is the Rugglestone Inn. It has a lovely garden with a stream. The Rock Inn also has a lvoely garden and good food but it is by Haytor so gets very crowded in tourist season.

Do you know Riverford Farm? They deliver veg boxes all round the country now but the orignal farm is about 15 mins drive from the River Dart Country Park. It has a gorgeous farm shop to buy meat for BBQs and you can arrange a tour of the farm with a home cooked lunch made from all the produce

Thanks artichokes... I have taken note of that info.

JudgeNutmeg... glad your ds was OK. Think pool is still there, though not sure about safety equipment etc. I didn't learn to swim till I was about 16 and consequently am a bit paranoid about water (especially as the Babybells seem to have inherited the famous Ellbell Sinking Gene!), so would not let them be in the water unless I was in with them, but it's good to be warned.

scaryteacher... when people say 'ooh, the traffic is so bad' I always have to ask myself what they are comparing it to. My mum won't drive to Penzance in the summer months 'because of the traffic' (and once, famously, got so lost trying to take an alternative route that she had to abandon the trip altogether and go home!), whereas, having lived in London, somehow even the worst that Penzance can offer doesn't seem too bad.
