I'm too late, they've all gone. Bum.

Fionn · 23/01/2003 18:07

Sorry Rhiannon - we need a way of adding to a thread without having to read the other posts first!

bossykate · 23/01/2003 19:20

in that case 4. is harriet harman. didn't get to this in time today and everyone has already got the other ones i know! bum!

Fionn · 25/01/2003 16:39

Yes no.12 is fencing, and you all got all the others. Marina, did you watch the Gathering Storm? I thought it was excellent, Finney was so believable as Churchill. Don't know why Vanessa Redgrave didn't portay his wife as Americanm though.

OP posts:
Marina · 25/01/2003 19:18

Fionn, yes I did, and thought it was very interesting and moving (the sub-plot about Linus Roache and Lena Headey's disabled son, for example). Did wonder whether Finney's sympathetic and charismatic interpretation contributed to Winston doing so well in Great Britons!
Despite O level history had also forgotten how many people thought WC had got the wrong end of the stick about Hitler before the war started.
Also wondered in passing about Clementine's accent.

bossykate · 26/01/2003 17:39

er, ladies, his wife was british i think! his mother jennie was american. hope i have got that right now having raised head above general knowledge parapet. roy jenkins biography is really excellent if you want to pursue your interest in the great man.

Marina · 26/01/2003 18:49

I think you are right, bk. Wife, mother...sometimes hard to tell the difference in our house

Fionn · 27/01/2003 15:28

Bossykate - I stand corrected then, it must have been his mother I was thinking of.

Try this little puzzler for fun
What is greater than God?
Rich people need it
Poor people have it
If you eat it you die.
What is it?

janh · 27/01/2003 19:53

Nothing!

star · 27/01/2003 20:44

Well done Janh. How long did it take you?It took me about 15 mins.

janh · 27/01/2003 22:13

Um, well, star, I might possibly have seen it before...!

(Takes me back! )

GillW · 29/01/2003 19:25

Ground floor perfumery,
stationery and leather goods,
wigs and haberdashery
kitchenware and food...going up

First floor telephones,
gents ready-made suits,
shirts, socks, ties, hats,
underwear and shoes...going up

Second floor carpets,

Frieda · 29/01/2003 20:50

Fantastic, GillW! Mind you, I don't think me and sobernow did at all badly considering it was, what, 20-odd years ago.
