is it really so bad to take a well-behaved dog on a lead into the playground?

I guess it's easier to ban all dogs rather than just banning idiots with badly behaved pit bulls. but it does seem a bit harsh. I appreciate that not everyone likes dogs and that some people are scared of them regardless of their nature or breed, but if it's on a lead I'm not sure I see what the problem is...

yes its really so bad. if dd1 sees a dog in the playground she wont leave. she physically shakes.

because they jump up at you even if on a lead
because they use the playground as a toilet (and many owners do not clean up after)

hatwoman, I can totally understand where you are coming from, but speaking as a mum of a child with a sever dog phobia, tis terrible to consider taking a dog into a playground.

The playground is HER territory. She feels safe there. Take that away from her and it would be cruel.

Please, please, please, leave your dog at home when you collect your children.

errr yes ask my dd, she was pursued and bitten by a dog on a lead which has no previous history......let's just say she's been petrified of dogs since.

yes because the no dogs rule can be upheld
an only well behaved dogs on lead who do not appear menacing to a small child and will not urinate/defacate in the playground or bark/growl at other dogs is much trickier to police especially when faced with the owners of badly behaved dogs who think their dogs behaviour is fine

also, what we have had sometimes, is that the children walking home from school get spooked by a dog barking and instinctively jump out of the way.

dd1 wont even stroke a puppy.

we talked about getting a dog a while ago and she was so scared and terrified. our carer bought his soft as pie boxer dog round who was still young and snall and she screamed and locked herself in her room.

she wont go next door to meet their new dog as is scared.

if a dog is chained outside one set of gates at school she will go round to the ones at the far end.

the playground is safe for her.

my kitten used to follow me everywhere. Even into the supermarket once. Twas like mary had a little lamb

I hate dogs. Glad they're banned from playgrounds.

ds is massivly allergic to them and they spark his asthma, yes, even in the open air!

BEcuase who is to say what a 'well behaved ' dog is?

I think it's ok to move lions into the other list squonk.

can we add rats to the 'no' list though.

My friend's son had his face ripped apart (and his entire childhood ruined) by someone else's 'well-behaved dog'. Please keep your dog at home.

A tiger on the other hand
Is kittenish and mild
And makes a pretty playfellow
For any little child.

And mothers of large families
Who claim to common sense
Will say a tiger will repays
The trouble and expense.

Yes it is really so bad to take your dog into the playground, whether it is on a lead, no lead, in a buggy, in a bag or whatever way you and your dog prefers for it to travel.
Even if you don't understand what the problem is then respect the fact that the rule is in place for a reason.

I am a dog lover but I think all dogs should be banned from chidren's playgrounds. The two just do not mix.
