Any experience of using an extra TV without external aerial extension?

I'm thinking of putting a little tv in ds's room. Phoned an aerial engineer today who said that to run an aerial into his room from the main room will cost about £120 to £160 and will involve drilling through walls, ceilings blah blah and will prob. need an amplifier so as not to mess up the existing signal.

Looking at the web, there are things advertised called "one for all " indoor aerials which supposedly do the job without all that faffing.

Does anyone have one of those, and does it work OK?

how apt - I've got a bloke here at the moment and he's fitting an digital aerial with 4 points throughout the house for £110 (we don't have any aerial sockets at the mo). Think the engineer is having you on(we had a few quotes like that £250 and they didn't even come out and have a look). If you're close to me (Uxbridge way,West London) I could give you his number.

Thanks for that Mrs RC, we're near Marlow so prob a bit too far out. Will see if I can get a better quote.

That's ok - I'm sure he would come to Marlow though. But you should definitely try and get a cheaper quote.

oh and he did tell me that this "need an amplifier" business is crap and sales talk - basically if you need an amp then the aerial is dodgy and you need to replace the aerial (£50 max!).

Depending where you are, you may be able to get an ok signal just from an internal aerial - I'd certainly give that a go before paying to have people put cable all through the house. I always used to watch a portable tv with the little wire loop aerial, and it was ok, so long as you got it adjusted right and didn't knock it!

We used a booster aerial in one of the bedrooms, its ok but you have to turn it on and fold out the antenna tbh we tend to watch DVDs more upstairs if we watched more TV I would probably get the aerial run in.

We used this company a while back and he was great - you can always ask if he will come out to you - depends how busy he is really doesnt it?

Thanks everyone!

Just got back from John Lewis with an internal aerial for a tenner and it works perfectly!

Now, what shall I spend the other £90 on.....
