Baby monster has had another crying day today-my head hurts LOTS, i am tired and should have spent the day packing to move house when instead i have rocked, jiggled and bounced him whilst simulataneously attending to ds1 and 2. On top of that my boob hurts and i thionk i am headed for mastitis again - nooooooo not this week!

So (the point of my post!) how can i stop a red hot breast turning to nasty mastitis(the fluey kind) What is the best way to pack with a screaming child? and what i can do to stop said child from screaming when he is a 'leave me alone don't touch me but hold me all the time' mood?

Mastitis - can you express the lumpy bit in a hot bath?

Packing... erm, do you have a sling? I can post one for you to borrow if you want? Other than that, DP will have to pack!

nickytwotimes · 06/07/2008 20:47

Could your doctor give you some prophylactic antibioticcs, stop it getting hold?

theSuburbanDryad · 06/07/2008 20:49

Oh honey I feel your pain. I have also got mastitis at the moment and feel like utter shit.

Best thing to do is a cold compress - I know everyone says warm but according to my friend who is a lactation consultant warm does more harm than good. If ds was in a whingey please hold me but don't touch me mood I used to put him in the sling (sometimes just on my back) and he'd often nod off. Do you have a wrap you could use for this purpose?

Failing that, do you have any friends or family nearby that can come and help with baby/packing?

puffylovett · 06/07/2008 20:50

cabbage leaves in your bra - they're a great anti inflammatory

get in the bath and hand exprss

and put baby monster in a sling if you can.. are you stressed re moving ? maybe he's picking up on stress levels ?

good luck for your move.

fishie · 06/07/2008 20:51

get someone else to pack. feed monster lots. go to shower comb breast.

go to quiet room shut door for half an hour and do something nice.

Guadalupe · 06/07/2008 20:52

rest as much as you can, that's what helped me. Very hard for you right now but can you call on everyine to help you? I found expressing in the bath helpful and like, UD says, I found cold things were better.

theSuburbanDryad · 06/07/2008 20:53

"In cases of light mastitis massage and application of heat prior to feeding can help as this may aid unblocking the ducts. However in more severe cases of mastitis heat or massage could make the symptoms worse and cold compresses are better suited to contain the inflammation."

From Wiki, which isn't the best source, but I'm just too fecking ill to be looking at Kellymom, sorry.

BlueDragonfly · 06/07/2008 20:55

i do have a sling but he doesn't want to be in the sling
nooo please don't post it! i may lose it or never get it!

i haven't time to go to the DRs. have got now (run out of boxes) but they are shut! packing tomo while ds1 at school and ds2 with childminder (i can do majority of their room while they aren't "helping"), tuesday the surgery is closed for training, wednesday will be too late if its going to get nasty I have upped my fluids, taken painkillers, am feeding as often as poss from that side, and am going to massage the sore part in the bath later on after ds3 has fed again....what else?

DP can't pack - he has rehearsals, ordinary work, and studio work to do. plus he would just throw everything into a box without looking!

Can you get to an our of hours doctor tonight?

BlueDragonfly · 06/07/2008 20:58

x posts sorry

UD sorry you have it too that can't be nice with being pg as well!

I have called on everyone i know to help us move from thursday. all local friends work so can't take time off to hold a screaming baby (and why would you want to do that lol!)

i don't think i am stressed about the move, i am hugely excited, its a weight off my shoulders more than anything.

Flamesparrow · 06/07/2008 20:58

Think about this logically. You don't have to pack it all this week do you? You have a cross over. So pack what you can, be calm (as calm as you can!!), and just worry about the rest later.

Looking after you and the monsters is the important thing right now.

BlueDragonfly · 06/07/2008 20:59

i must have some ABs left over from last time somewhere surely

we are moving in completely by sunday - staying in this shit hole any longer is not an option, in this weather particularly, will find my other thread so you can see why!

BlueDragonfly · 06/07/2008 21:03

previous thread

sorry, i have just read this back and i seem a bit hysterical maybe i am more stressed than i thought!!

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 06/07/2008 21:05

Staying isn't what I mean, I mean pack everything you NEED to move, but you can always move books etc later.

You don't sound hysterical and you don't need to apologise - you sound worried.

BlueDragonfly · 06/07/2008 21:08

ah i see. no we aren't coming back after w/e. even for post(not that we get that very often )
have a feeling the landlord will keep deposit so are deducting that from what we owe him rent wise, seems fair seeing as we have put in central heating so we could actually be warm after the fires were conde, ned and he kept them in

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 06/07/2008 21:09

with you.

If it were school holidays I would come and pack for you

Flamesparrow · 06/07/2008 21:10

as in FOR you, not at you

puffylovett · 06/07/2008 21:10

does your GP have an out of hours emergency doctor ? i would consider this an emergency and suitable for a call out, you will need AB's if mastitis sets in as it could seriously affect your ability to feed your baby / milk supply etc. They should consider it a priority... give them a buzz if it gets any worse.

BlueDragonfly · 06/07/2008 21:10

you live a trillion miles away!!

however, if i put ds3 on the train, will you meet him at the end? he will be screaming blue murder as he feeds every hour and a half and its quite a trek to you

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 06/07/2008 21:11

Believe me, I would do it (either scenario)

BlueDragonfly · 06/07/2008 21:14

its not very helpful that DP has 2 far away gigs at w/e. one friday night in nottingham and one saturday night in preston

kezboosnez · 06/07/2008 21:16

savoy cabbage is fab put it in the fridge so it is really cold hope it works it did for me

NormaStanleyFletcher · 06/07/2008 21:23

Where are you BD? Can you have an invasion of MNers who will drive you to doctors and pack boxes (using old guardians and boden catalogues)?

Flamesparrow · 06/07/2008 21:26

I think that MN to the rescue is the right idea.

Will you beat me if I start a thread?
