Has anyone had a problem with their dog after having a baby?

He's a rescue border collie so pretty highly strung anyway. He's becoming obsessive about my DS and I don't know what he might do so I have to shut him out of the room which I feel really bad about. I know DS has to come first but was wondering if anyone had any advice. I'm worried that as DS gets older we won't be able to cope with him and the dog being together.

Obsessive in what way ?
We have a rescue border collie cross and 3 dc's.

I have a border collie too, so I know what you mean.
Can you contact the rescue centre for advice?
Wiccaweys are very experienced in collies you could try giving them a ring they are usually very helpful.

no my dog became very protective about both of my dds. with dd1 my previoulsy shy dog who would hide away from visitors stayed in the room when dd1 was there. i didnt realise why she was doing this untill my friend asked if he could hold the baby while i was in the kitchen! my dog chased him up into the top if my sofa growling at him as he had gotten to close to the baby while i was out of the room!

with ddd2 she cant settle unless she knows where she is. if i put her upstairs for a nap during the day the dog has to wait outside of the bedroom untill she comes back down!

Thanks Ecmo, may give that a try. He came from a lady who rescues them from farmers. He was shut up in a barn for the first 2.5 years of his life and was half starved and had a ring of fur missing round his neck from where he was chained up for so long, goodness knows what else was done to him. He will watch my DS like a hawk and if the baby moves or cries he starts pacing up and down and spins round, frankly it's a bit mad....

My dog seriously chases shadows
she also follows me round everywhere i go ,the amount of times i have fallen over her sta underneath me
She has been very over attentive with the dc's tbh as you say sitting near them and she is always up and pacing when anyone wakes.
But she is lovely with them. They now play with her , try to train her and she takes it all in her stride.
In fact if they are playing with her she is calmer.

We had a lot of helpful advice from our vet when I was pregnant-lots of vets have behaviourists too, yours may do-,but the dogs trust are aslo really really helpful with this sort of thing and will organise a visit from a behaviourist for a very reasonable fee (I don't know if this is in all areas, but call them they are great)
