Have been noticing lots of poos - dark brown/blackish, about half and inch long. Dotted all around. Mainly on pathways rather than in grass.

We have some little lizards which seem to live in the brickwork (am in Budapest so hotter than UK hence the lizards). Poos seem a bit big for them but I suppose it could be. Didn't notice the poos last year.

is it bullet shaped?

ChopsTheDuck · 02/07/2008 09:20

how big are the lizards? We had lizards in america but their poo wasnt that big!

NigellaTheOriginal · 02/07/2008 09:22

hmm. hard or soft?

geekgirl · 02/07/2008 09:22

I had a pet iguana once, the iguana poo was pretty much like bird poo. If the droppings you're seeing are bullet-shaped, I'm afraid I'd say RAT!

sheep

Talking about animal poo, the past couple of mornings I have noticed small black ball shaped "things" on the kitchen floor. I thought we had mice, so called the MOD contractors to come out and ivnestigate.
Turns out it is peppercorns!. Dh had dropped the pepper mill, 2 nights running whilst making his sandwiches for work

Sorry - went shopping!

lol saltire!

geekgirl - NO!!!! They are bullet shaped.

I thought they were too big for the lizards. I remember the little ones in Asia and their dropping were like bird poo.

Oh God. How the hell do I deal with a rat outside (I hope it's outside - we leave the doors open a lot!) in Hungary 2 days before we go on holiday!

We got a phone number but they were too busy so back to drawing board!

Then they phoned back (obv took pity on me and the panic in my voice!) and are coming tomorrow!

Sorry, yes, rats was my first thought.

Buda · 03/07/2008 08:55

Well ratman has been and doesn't think it is rats!

Put boxes down anyway.

actually, I have another theory - could it be toad droppings? We have toads in our garden and as one crawled into an empty glass jar I had sitting on the porch overnight and did a poo in it, I can now confidently say that rat droppings and toad droppings are quite similar, but the toad ones are a bit squishier and stickier-looking.

Cies · 03/07/2008 09:35

Oooh, my sil would love this game! She's studying PHD on wolves and has to spend days collecting poos and analysing them to work out what animal it is and what it eats!

Hope the poison works.

SauerKraut · 03/07/2008 09:36

Sounds as if it could be hedgehog poo.

LazyLinePainterJane · 03/07/2008 09:40

LOL at saltire's peppercorns

Buda · 03/07/2008 12:02

Actually geekgirl - I did see a toad a few weeks ago. So it could be toad poo.

A friend here has hedgehogs in her garden and she wondered was it hedgehog poo.

Am a bit worried about the rat traps now.

hedgehog poo has shiny bits in it because of all the beetles they eat, and it's not as uniform as rat or toad poo

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 04/07/2008 08:21

I have pet rats and their poo isn't that big. But are wild rats bigger.

My first thought was hedgehog. They would also stick to paths more and poo as they go along. Rats normally have a favourite corner that they poo in, near/in their home.
