Hi, I was brought up in Peebles and soon to be moving back from the frozen north. It's a brilliant place to bring up children, go for it.

oh god i feel sick with excitement and we won't probably even get the house. when are you coming back?

Peebles is lovely.

Hopefully before the end of the school holidays. Visited both the schools a couple of weeks ago, which side of the river is the house you are looking at? Assuming you have primary aged kids of course. It is a lovely town, although much busier these days than it was while I was growing up there.

I'm in Gala and because Peebles is a lot nicer, imho. My sil lives just outside and there certainly seems to be plenty on for kids in the area, if the amount of time she spends ferrying hers about is anything to go by!

Peebles is fab!! I think you would love it! My friend lives a few miles outside of Peebles and is always going on about how great it is!!

romalo...i think it. would be priorsford, but have just read the hmie report and it sounds a bit shaky (altho my oldest is only 3 so have still a bit of time left to worry about that!). would be very interested to know what the local chat was about schools. was down there again today having a schneck about!

We had the full tour of both Kingsland and Priorsford and both were really welcoming and helpful. Kingsland (my old ps!) is bursting at the seams and in line for a new building which is sad as a beautiful building but much needed when you see the cramped conditions the children and teachers are dealing with. There must be 3X the kids there than 30 years ago when I was there. Having said that my DS1 will go there into P3 and I'm quite happy with that, it has a nice feeling about it.

Priorsford is a much more modern building with brand new games hall and new additional class space and has been granted more money mainly from the new housing out that side of the town. They are going to increase the offices space and alter some of the classroom sizes next. It has a nice open plan layout with lovely playing fields as you will have seen. Both schools are fairly well thought of in the town as far as I know. My DS2 will probably go to Priorsford nursery in Aug as Kingsland is full. The nursery is large and busy, he's at a lovely small school nursery at the moment so that might take a bit of getting used to although he's keen!

I don't know what else is available in the town for younger children although the Gytes sports centre seems to have stuff on. I'm sure there will be plenty happening. I'll be looking for things to do with my nearly 2yr old DD.

Good luck with your decision and house offer, it is a great place for young children, maybe meet you down Tweed Green!

Oh, meant to say that they are probably going to be redrawing the catchment areas when the new Kingsland building is open, at the moment it is very clear cut by the river but will be changing so that the houses in the Edderstone Road area of the South side will most likely be in Kingsland catchment in a few years, the new building is going to be opposite Hay Lodge park on the Glasgow Road.
HTH.

oh Romolo thanks very much for that (i was in bed mourning the sad demise of andy murray when you replied!). if we are successful, we'll try to get my oldest into priorsford nursery too!

think my biggest worry would be making new friends...but i guess i would meet people through the DDs. and my aunt lives there (bu she is a bit odd) so at least i would know someone. am feeling sick with nerves about making an offer - we'll probably get beaten anyway, so all the soul searching might have been in vain!
