Just picked up the kids from school and Ds1 was in the office (as he is in a wheelchair) and when I went to get him, he whispered to me that someone called him a 'Retard' Apparently they got their class photos today and this kid said 'Oh look, theres a retard in the pic' and pointed at Ds1... I went straight to the lady in the office and the dep. head came to see me and wrote it all down. How the hell do 10 years old know these disgusting words??!!! She is phoning the parents today about it...

very true spice, all kids can be nasty, no matter what the parenting, i know i would be mortified if any of mine had done something like this, and be down on them like a ton of bricks.

I would want to know.

SparklyGothKat · 30/06/2008 19:58

I will find out tomorrow what happens now. I know he might have heard it from an older sibling (unfortunely I know its a 'choice' word with teenagers atm) the dep. head was horrified, and agreed with me that in this day and age its disgusting that children use this word

dd1 once pulled a 'joey face' (thinks thats whats it called, where you put your tongue into the bottom lip) she got a bollocking off me for it, and i explained what it referred to (wasnt it an old man on blue peter who had CP, i had to really try andf remember). anyway she went to school and pulled her friends up on it, and they dont do it now apparently.

forevercleaning · 30/06/2008 20:01

yes, joey deacon

misdee · 30/06/2008 20:05

my dd1 is sparklygothcats dc's cousin, so she was well aware of cerebal palsy etc. the fact is, she didnt know what this face she pulled was in reference to.

SGK, there is no way your ds is 'slow' at all. he scares me with how smart he is.

SparklyGothKat · 30/06/2008 20:08

he scares me too Misdee!! He comes out with stuff I can;t even think about.
He has finally caught up with the SATs tests (he was having his operation when the rest of the class took them) and he said he 'enjoyed the tests' lol!!

OP posts:
misdee · 30/06/2008 20:09

SparklyGothKat · 30/06/2008 20:12

I said to him 'you enjoyed the tests??' and he said 'yea, I like tests' I have an odd child lol!

That is really not on.
DS1 has had a few perple call him Retard (he has tourettes and tics)

DSresponds with I have a condition that makes me behave like this...whats your excuse?

misdee · 30/06/2008 20:14

i will give you dd2 then, i think they will get on well once she is older lol.

oh she wants a ps3. i said no chance! she has been playing lego indiana jones with her uncle, and really likes it.

i still say no lol.

SparklyGothKat · 30/06/2008 20:19

PMSL!! @ a Ps3. no chance! I was saying to Dh yesterday how smart your Dd2 is, and how I think she should be put up a year at school.

OP posts:
misdee · 30/06/2008 20:49

she is on a year one level already, but seeing as she would bein year one if she was born one ay earlier, i am not worried. her needs are being met at school and she is being challenged. plus she has some lovely friends in her year group.

SparklyGothKat · 01/07/2008 14:35

Dh took the kids in this morning and the dep. head said that the parents were horrified! Let hope they sorted it out. I have to pick up the kids this afternoon so will see what happens next

fingers crossed

SparklyGothKat · 01/07/2008 15:52

ok, the parents were horrified, and the kid has been kept in all day and also not in the classroom all day. The dep. head is trying to get the local PCSO to come and talk to the class, as it is a serious situation and wants the class to know exactly what the results could be if they were older. Seems the school are handling this very well

its a word. at ten, they are smart enough to be able to use a dictionary.

SparklyGothKat · 01/07/2008 15:57

yes its a word stitch, but what I meant is how do children know that this word means, and then direct it at a disabled child!!

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 01/07/2008 16:04

and how would you feel if you had a disabled child who was called 'spaz' and 'retard' just because his legs don't work as well as everyone else? These words are disgusting and people need to know how it makes others feel when its directed at them. Ds1 is very bright and knows exactly what these words mean, imagine if you had a child who was serevely disabled and was called this regularly, but had no knowledge of what was being said, does it make it right?? NO!!

OP posts:
Divastrop · 01/07/2008 16:48

its good that the school are taking this action.it could just be that it needs to be pointed out to some of the children that that word is not acceptable, even though they may hear it alot on TV and the 'net.

SparklyGothKat · 01/07/2008 16:54

Thats my thoughts on it too Diva.

glad to hear the school have dealt with it. sounds like a good school.
sadly when you read posts like stich's you can see where kids get it from.

SparklyGothKat · 01/07/2008 17:04

it is a good school, except the head isn;t very 'involved' but the dep. heads (they have 2 lol) are very good.

OP posts:
stitch · 02/07/2008 08:55

sparkle, the fact that theyused it is abominable.
knowing it is not the shocking thing.
iam glad it is being dealt with. completel unnacceptable behaviour
