It is anAmerican 'motivational' assembly, which then flogs 'yoyos' to the kids priced between 5 and 10 pounds.
Now all the kids want to buy one, most of them have one, Ds really wants one.
I am refusing to but hi one on principle but feel guilty he is being left out.
I am writing a letter to the head to complain..

In Scotland "Ned" is used instead of "Chavs".

Never heard of this. Not had it DD's school.

LIZS · 22/06/2008 18:53

Not come across it but we did have a Flora sponsored roadshow last week under the guise of healthy eating

Joanie · 22/06/2008 23:30

we had a skipping workshop with the 'opportunity to purchase sports skipping ropes for £6!!' Luckily DD already has several. There is now a skipping craze at the school and revial of 'salt, vinegar, mustard, pepper' and 'I like coffee, I like tea etc' which is bringing back memories for me.

Ned looks awful!

northernrefugee39 · 23/06/2008 12:29

Gosh that's appalling. And the school pays a fortune too.

DoubleBluff · 23/06/2008 13:38

Wht has also annoyed me is that at playtime, due to H&S - the kids can't play football, conkers or bulldogs, but are allowed to swing yoyos around!
ANyway have sent my letter in today and have emailed one of the governors to complain.

Is this in England????

MsDemeanor · 23/06/2008 13:44

If this is in the UK can someone please forward this to Caitlin Moran or Janice Turner or someone to show this lot up. Blimey, I'm really shocked.

DoubleBluff · 23/06/2008 13:45

WAles - look out could be coming to a school near you!

Gosh, that is appalling. Capitalism dressed up as morality. Clearly operating on the there's one born every minute principle - 'hey, if we preach a bit of motherhood and apple pie maybe they won't notice we are actually flogging yo-yos'. I would dislike it anyway but somehow it being American makes it even worse. Combines the worst side of the US, a horrible mix of cultural imperialism and schmaltz.

getbackinyouryurtjimjams · 23/06/2008 13:46

10 quid for a yoyo?

DoubleBluff · 23/06/2008 14:30

I know and even worse a LOT of parents have bought them. I feel so guilty for not buying one, like i am punishing DS. I have explained why to him and he does understand, and has made comments like 'Yoyos are for losers'
and 'I don't need a yoyo to be cool'. AAh bles him.
