Hi there
Has anyone seen one of these - seats for children that instead of going on the back of the bike where you can't see them, are attached to the front, with a child on either side?

I have a long school run starting in Sept with two DCs and am really interested in trying to get one of these.

Our nanny saw them on the Isle of Wight, but I can't seem to find them on the web anywhere.

Does anyone know what i'm talking about?!

TIA

this is pretty cool as well, and this:

onderwater family tandem is the bees knees - you can get a cargo box to go on the front for putting junior in when they are tiny, then when they are bigger - they can sit on and pedal! These dutch are amazing.

Infact....a better picture

The zigos are the bike of choice for families around here, and if anywhere in England is the family cycling capital it's got to be here in Cambridge!

You see all sorts of different bikes and contraptions for transporting kids around in here, it's great!

Still really keen on The Bakfiets Cargobike - i'm in love! Think we shall chose the long version as we can use it for transorting all our gear around for sailing and so on, plus the two kids as well. It just seems really well made and well thought out.

Selee
Can you tell us a little bit about the other models you saw? Did you try the nihola, etc?

Question for all: what I'm wondering about with these things is how much one has to PLAN when going out places? Can you just park them anywhere? What about bike chains???

I went and tried the Bakfiets Cargobike, both the standard and long sizes and i have to say we loved them. It is a two wheeler and feels like a normal bike would feel to ride. The long box is the one we will choose, you can fit up to 4 kids in, or two kids with all their bags and kit, eg. small bikes, childrens toys etc as well. The small version is still pretty roomy too.

The ride was smooth, brakes excellent, other road users smiled, gave us lots of space, and the nike was nifty to manoever. Very impressed with its handling.

There was a bike rack with integral bungee cords, 8 gears, puncture reistant tyres... you can tell i'm hooked can't you!!!

We saw a lady in Richmond, who is an agent and does free demo's of this bike. It's a long story why we didn't actually see any other bikes, but it didn't matter anyway, as we know we'll buy the Bakfiets Cargobike Long.

I could say a lot more about it, but I will say you can wheel it easily backwards up a kerb onto the pavement if you need to. It has an integral lock so it is easy to park up outside a supermarket safely when shopping for example.

Any more questions please ask, i'll try and answer. Just need to see if we have the cash to buy asap, may need to wait until next month.

I love the sound of the cargo bike - might have to go and have a look after your glowing review selee!

We already have a collection of 7 bikes between 2 of us, and with #1 due any day now (hopefully, I am 41+0 today) there has been much discussion about what cycling solution we will employ going forward.

Thanks for posting that up selee - really useful.

If you google - dutch bike jessica - you should get the woman we saw, she was fab so helpful. We have ordered ours, it is arriving on tuesday, I am so looking forward to using it! Good luck choosing.

Overmydeadbody
I am probably being very dense but I can't find a UK dealer for the Zigo.

Have you really seen them all over Cambridge? Do you have any clue where I might be able to try/buy one?

Cheers
