Ive had water infections since i was 15 (now 20) and had loads of different antibiotics but none of them have worked. I have been prescribed a different antibiotic today but i need something to take the pain away. Does anyone know what i can take? Paracetamol just make me feel even worse. I desperately need advice!!

The best think I found for pain relief was alka seltzer. Don't scoff, it really works. The aspirin is a painkiller and there is another ingredient which neutralizes the acidity of your wee which causes the burning during an infection. It just helps cope with symptoms and does not treat the underlying cause of the infections, though. You should ask to see the specialist again.

i had to have one of my kidneys removed because of the scarring. extreme and did occur as kidneys were still growing as i was young but go back to the gp and be bossy as it can be damaging but more than anything else its hideously painful.

Thanks YeahBut. I have asked plenty of times if i can see the specialist but for some reason my doctor won't refer me

do they do a urine sample when you go to the doc's? my lovely consultant matched my infection to best type of antibiotics rather than the uti generic ones the gp gives you and it really did the trick before i had the operation.

I agree with you there luckywinner! My boyfriend doesn't understand at all what kind of pain i'm in.. He thinks i'm just being a baby! But there is no pain like it. Child birth doesn't even come close!

Yeah i have to take a urine sample every time i go. They know what kind of antibiotics should work for me.. which they do while i'm on them but as soon as i come off them the pain comes back within a day.

my friend is the same and tbh she has been on the antibiotics for 6 years now . but it works for her and although long term i'm sure there must be something better but it keeps her pain free.

I feel so much better now knowing that i'm not the only one who has this problem.. I can actually talk to someone about it knowing they know what i'm going through!
