Intensive driving courses...any good?

Had driving lessons as a teenager but didn't enjoy them (nervous driver) & when I finished the block of lessons my parents paid for I never carried on. 1o years on, going back to work after maternity leave in Sep & finally have a reason to try and overcome nervousness.
Actually its pretty damned important that I do something quick as DD will be locked in nursery overnight! Am prepared to pay for intensive course but everyone I talk to seems to think they are a bad idea... funny though as no one who says this has actually done an intensive course.
Im hoping that lessons everyday will mean that I dont have the time to talk myself out of it or develop a sudden illness which means I cannot make the lesson
Has anyone done an intensive course/think it will be good for a nervous driver?

Helped a friend of mine pass her test in a week.

I think you need to practise more. Have one or two lessons a week and in the mean time DRIVE lots.

I've been driving everywhere with my Dad in the passenger seat. It's a pain for both of us and hehas driven me MAD grrrrrrrr with his annoying comments some days, BUT I feel for the first time that I could transport myself, in a car, as the driver!!!! from A to B. For years I've forked out for lessons but never reached that point...

I know I would have felt oh this is too intense I want to go home now after an hour or two!! I don't think I could really concentrate and learn for that long.

I had a crash on a crash driving course. Put me off for life

Have been out with DH a couple of times but it nearly ended in divorce! Sorry to hear that furrycat! I was knocked down by a learner at 15, hence my fear of driving as I am the scattiest person & thought that I would do far worse to some other poor bugger!
