Advice on tracing a long lost relative

Wonder if anyone can help. My dad was fostered at the age of 10 after the breakup of his parent's marriage in the early 1960's. He never saw either parent again and has no idea whether they are alive / dead / remarried etc. Glasgow social services destroyed many of the records of this period, my dad's file amongst them so we have no info on the background to his ending up in foster care.
We have a copy of his birth certificate through which we have been able to track down his mother's birth certificate. Does anyone have any advice on where to go from here. Can we use any of this info to find out if either parent remarried or has died? Any other tips on tracing missing persons?

I found my father a few years ago by paying a company £10 to do a search. All I had was his name and approximate date of birth and that information was about 30 years out of date. i will see if I can find the name of the company. It took about a month for them to come back to me with three matches. two close and one spot on. the one spot on included the middle name.

look at new.around.co.uk/default.asp?7898X. Also www.bmd-certificates.co.uk/marriage.html is where all the birth deaths and marriage certificates are held. You do need a bit more information for them though. years ago you could go in and look through ledgers I dont know whether that is still possible. hth

the new.around.co used to be called people finder which is the company that I used. It still the same company my password and user name still work although no credits left.

There are a couple of family tree websites that offer really good services. One of them allows you to post messages for helping to find someone. Many people have been reunited this way after seeing people looking for other people that they know and then putting them in touch somehow I think.

Armed with only my grandmothers maiden name and her mother's name, I have managed to research quite a lot of my family through websites as mentioned.

Hope this helps.
