We are thinking of moving from london to Cambridge. My partner will be working in London so we'd need to be fairly near the station. All advice on schools, what the commute is like, nice places to go/live/things to do with children welcome.

ps: Never heard of Alison Pearson.

Apparently one of my former students is living locally, however, and having found out that I'm in town, spoke high praises of me; so I seem to be famous in some select circles... hahahaha.

hi ive just couaght up with latest postings, its such a small world we live about 8 miles from diss (in suffolk)diss is norfolk, theres a fab baby shop, excellent thai resurant and loads of charity shops for that elusive bargain.

I grew up in suffolk and have returned after 18 years in london and it is good to be home, i miss selfridges, but the clean air, walking, new friends etc, etc far outway city living, maybe we could all meet up. if the dh gets the job in Diss?

Thought I'd resurrect this thread and see if anyone can recommend a removal company within Cambridge. We are hoping to complete in December, so I am starting to get twitchy...

libb · 29/10/2003 06:43

Hi,

I live near Cambridge and would recommend Fulcher's on 01223 362591, Read's Removals on 01223 302288 and Aldhouse and Smith on 01223 861761.

Hope these are of help. Let me know if you need any more info!

Take care, Libb x

Nome · 29/10/2003 10:25

Thanks, Libb. I've got Aldhouse coming out on Friday and have had the A-Team round. I'll give the other two a bell.

Blast, that will teach me to wander off - Hello Cazzybabs - finally saw your message.

Eden Street, eh - that's lovely, I used to have a friend who rented there and always wanted to live so central. Bit too close to the temptation of the Grafton Centre for me though.

DS is now 21 months and is at Harvey Road where he is attempting to break all previous records for numbers of entries in the accident book.

Where's JCN?

libb · 04/11/2003 21:21

Evening,

My turn for a query! I wouldn't mind knowing about childcare in Cambridge as this our first and I just don't know where to start! We live in Haverhill (or Haverhole as I know it after being spoilt with the luxuries of Cambridge for so long) but I think maybe a nursery in Cambridge would be better as I work for the Mag. Courts and intend (at this moment!) to return to work after the birth.

Any ideas? I know Harvey Road is meant to be really good!

Many thanks,

Libb x

cazzybabs · 04/11/2003 21:35

Well I think JCN is the best nursery. Its on Chaucer rd which is off Trumptington Road. IT has a long waiting list and is expensive. Still dd loves it (even if she has chicken pox and has been off for 2 days - still back to work tomorrow .

Libb just phone them all up and go and have a look round. I think JCn and Havery Rd are the best, but I don't know what the others are really like. I only go off what children we have in to our reception class at the school I work at.

cazzybabs · 04/11/2003 21:36

Libb btw you need to get your name on a waiting list ASAP as places are in demand. It will cost you about £50 to put your name on the list.

Gizmo · 05/11/2003 13:30

Here, here about getting on waiting lists.

I had DS on waiting list for Harvey Road at 8 weeks pregnant - he started when he was 6 months old.

Of the other nurseries I saw, the Kids Unlimiteds looked exciting and had an excellent range of care and activities. Quite large, though, which doesn't suit everyone's style.

Never saw JCN - wish I had now!
