Let's prove this dickhead wrong...what achievements did you manage during pregnancy?

Theo Paphitis from Dragon's Den claims that pregnant women's brains 'turn to mush': here. Unless this is just journalistic licence, this man is clearly turning hearsay into fact.

The facts appear to be that the brain does shrink during pregnancy, which can impair intellectual function and possibly even cause PND. But this doesn't necessarily happen if you add extra fatty acids to your diet. I know of women who achieved great things before and after having a baby, what about you?

I'll start: I won an industry competition when 6 months' pregnant and was selected as one of my industry's 'bright young things'.

Got a first, won a prestigious studentship & was first author on a paper published in a pretty good journal (also got married & bought a house). While dealing with frequent hospitalisations for hyperemesis gravidarum & out of control blood pressure.

I completed, whilst working full time, the Legal Practice Course, passing with Merit. DS was 6 weeks old when final exams finished and passed.

MargaretMountford · 06/06/2008 21:25

My achievements while pregnant...........Hmmm..............Making my gorgeous babies...

That takes lots of hard work and is a job that NO MAN could ever do .

girlandboy · 10/06/2008 20:54

Can't think of anything, except I managed to wash my feet in bathroom sink when 9 months pregnant.

merryberry · 10/06/2008 21:39

NigellaTheUndomesticGoddess · 10/06/2008 21:43

god you lot are so impressive.
me - i managed to survive - despite having nothing to eat for at least 5 months and losing 3.5 stone. my brain may not hav shrank but my arse did.

wonderstuff · 10/06/2008 21:44

Wow I feel quite inadequate. My brain did go awol, but I grew a whole new person in my tummy, something Theo can't do!! I think that was quite an achievement. Oh and I kept loads of 11-16 yo mostly in line and taught them some stuff so they could do exams and stuff.

wonderstuff · 10/06/2008 21:46

girlandboy thats impressive. I forgot to say I kept my toe nails trimmed on my own because dh wouldn't go near them

girlandboy · 10/06/2008 22:10

Wonderstuff, I may have been huge, but I'm very bendy!!

sorkycake · 10/06/2008 22:16

FFS what does he want.

Is growing a whole other person not enough?

whatdayisit · 10/06/2008 22:19

I started a degree course when DS1 was 10 moths old and finished 3 1/2 years later when DS 2 was almost 2.

I took an exam at 8 week preg, when it was an achievement to go 3 hours without being sick and another 1 week before he was born, when it was an equal achivement to sit in the same chair for 3 hours

During second pregnancy, I was sick every single day.

I got a 2:1 and was very proud to have my 2 under 5's at my graduation ceremony.

Whizzz · 10/06/2008 22:20

I completed the first year of a 2 part diploma (as well as working full time) including standing up & giving a 20 min presentation about 3 weeks before my due date. I had DS, did my first year exams & then started the second year - & passed them too!

Actually, Theo, during that last 3 months of my 1st prgnancy, I got 157% of my achievement targets at work. Better than any of the men I worked with, so there. Mainly because I was sooo determined not to let the side down.

chonky · 10/06/2008 22:24

I got promoted, and moved house twice.

Barnical · 10/06/2008 22:26

1st pregnancy.. continued with degree

3rd pregnancy became self employed and started working for myself

Twiglett · 10/06/2008 22:28

got nothing .. sorry

HeadFairy · 10/06/2008 22:29

I got a promotion too (beat 100 other applicants), also co-ordinated entire house rebuild and redecoration, worked horrendous shifts including nights in very pressured environment, also like girlandboy and wonderstuff managed to remain sufficiently bendy to perfectly paint my own toenails at 9 months pg

HeadFairy · 10/06/2008 22:32

Oh and I saw his £350,000 maybach parked outside my work the other day, really w*nky number plate... R4MAN.
