I don't remember the last time I used love in a text but I definitely wouldn't use luv. How old is he my dad is in his 70s and texts like it's 1997 and if his messages are too long he'll get charged for two texts.

It always surprises me when I hear people talking to family in real life or on their phones and they quite often say " love you" when they are saying goodbye.
To me it's just become a meaningless empty phrase.
I never ever said "love you" to my parents or siblings and they never ever said it to me. I said it to my son every day when he was growing up because it was important to me that he knew how much he meant to me. Now he is an adult I say it when circumstances mean it's appropriate: illness, or occasions that are really significant.
So I think if you use the phrase on a daily basis I would wonder if it really mattered whether it's "love" or "luv" that's used so long as the person saying it actually means what they say.

Your parents never told you they loved you @Bringitonicancope

or they never told you they loved you over the phone?

To me it's just become a meaningless empty phrase.. Only if you are saying it to someone and you don’t mean it 😵‍💫

Never told me they loved me.
That's why I made a point of telling my son everyday when he was growing up.

Mine neither.

Which is why both my sister and I tell our children every day.

Are you querying the spelling or the sentiment, @Giantmary?
