Any home hairdressing tips?

I cut DH's hair with clippers, which works well, but he wants me to do clever stuff with his fringe. And I can't. We've just bought a pair of thinning scissors - can anyone tell me how to use them, or point me to a good website?

Also - I cut DS's hair. He is nearly three and has very fine hair. We go for a messy surfer look - basically I trim the fringe so he can see, and hack at other bits when they look too ridiculous. Any tips for doing a better job?

thinning scissors create a good look if you have thick hair

depends on how you cut his hair with clippers do you do round sides then scissor the the top

if you scissor the top you can cut into the fringe so holding fringe up in between fingers point scissors down and cut into hair but have to be creful not to cut chunks out you just quickly cut in and move scissors out and cut back in again

gives a graduated funky look with out it being just dead straught but takes practice very easy to cut away the hair instead of cutting into to it

as for ds hair not sure as dont know length but you could scissor cut his hair and layer it slightly to create a wave affect

look up hairdressing site that can talk you through a cut

its hard to explain as i was obviously taught at college and comes naturally to me now but hard for someone who doesnt know

bubblagirl - I clipper all over - 4 on top and 2 round the side - but he wants the front to be more interesting. I'd try to explain better, but I don't really know!

Can you recommend any good websites or books that are aimed at a complete novice?
