Reusable nappies

We are new to reusable nappy's and currently have 13 of the bambino all in ones that we love but trying to think of what to do on the go.

Wet bags are not the problem i have plenty of them but thinking more about saving space.
Reusables are obviously quite bulky and when we go out it’s usually for the day so need around 6 nappies. We also don't have a car so keeping some in there when we go out isn't an option for us.
I was looking at the nappies covers that you use as a 2 part system but cant seem to find much online about. I know that with these you can wipe the cover clean and the only thing i would need to bring out with me is inserts.

Does anyone have any experience with these? I cant seem to find any inserts online could someone help in this aspect? All i can find is booster, is that what i use and if so how many would i put in?

just some other questions i have is:

how many happy am i likely to need.
How often do you wash them? what i can find is 3 days is this accurate, to little, too much?
has anyone tried the Aldi Mamia reusables, if so what are they like?

my baby is 8 months old and exclusively breast fed for reference.

Hope this makes sense. Thank you in advance

also if anybody has any on vinted they are selling that would be helpful.

I'm sure someone will pop along with more knowledge, but the waterproof covers I've used go over non-waterproof nappies rather than inserts. Can't remember the brand but there was a little lamb on it. I don't think they were much less bulky than a full waterproof reusable, though, sadly. They did wash much more nicely, though because you could hot wash/boil them.

thank you for getting back to me. Im hoping someone can guide further. I think in the meantime im going to use reusables in the house and disposables out and about. The only other option i can think of is using boosters to hopefully reduce changing when out and just take about 2-4 nappies.

The inserts are what take up the space really and you'd have to have a spare cover or two in case the one baby is wearing gets covered beyond needing a wipe so really you won't save much space at all. I used to super boost the first nappy worn on a day out to get as long as possible out of it, you could take a few bamboo liners out with the nappies to get some extra time out of the ones you've got with you too.

Bambino mio aren't a popular brand because the instead are micro fibre, they flood easily so no good for a heavy wetter. I got on quite well with them, I bought loads in Aldi for about £1.20 each when they were selling them off so didn't mind having to change them frequently as had a lot.

Little lamb nappies are lovely and they have lots of boosting and night time options. I used old fashioned terry nappies at night with a cover

This makes sense thank you so much. We love the bambino ones so far no issues. Our girl isn't a heavy wetter at all so not got any issues in that aspect. I think definitely going to give the liners a go and see if that help but if not until we have a car ill just use disposable out and about if its for the whole day.

i have seen alot of the aldi mamia ones on vinted brand new for really cheap so thinking about getting them as spares to try. Thank you for the help everyone

Hi,
i’m not sure if this will be useful, but I have been using the bambino mio duo nappies with my little boy for the last 12 months they’re made up of the outer cover which you can use multiple times than a cloth rectangle that you fold to put inside the nappy and you can also put a booster pad in here if you want to, I have used the Aldi mamia boosters with these nappies and they fit fine. I don’t think they make them anymore as most are the one part nappies. But if you have a look on Vinted, there are a few on there most of the time. I have six covers and about 20 inserts and I wash them every 3 days. I just put them in a bucket outside and wait to wash them.

@MumofoneToby Thank you so much, this is exactly what i needed to read. I actually purchased some more of the all in one off vinted and the lovely lady put in some of the nappys you used for free. i love them and think they are perfect for out and about. Eveyone put me off buying as they said they were just as bulky but its so much more compact as like you said you can reuse the cover and just use the inserts which roll up super small. I obviously take a spare cover just in case. Just a quick question is it possible to use the boosters on their own or do you need the main part aswell? Thank you

@Piggy2310 i use both tbh, when he was smaller maybe could have got away with just the booster but both mean no leaks !

Piggy2310 · 14/07/2025 22:45

Yes that makes sense. I have just ordered 2 of the waterproof nappy covers brand new off Vinted for £5 and have 7 pre-folds so will give it a go and if i get along with them i will order more then. Thank you so much

One nappy with a booster comfortably lasted us 4 hours at that age (I often used the cotton-bamboo Motherease with a booster and wrap). Make sure you aren't using any fabric softener and you're rinsing thoroughly enough, as they should be lasting a lot longer than an hour or 2.
