The end of an era is approaching the Mars household!

The DTs have one more half term at their playgroup. All 5 of my children have been there and so I have a 12 year history with them.

The woman that runs 3 Monkeys has been kind, flexible and generally wonderful. All of my children have loved it there. It's old fashioned where the emphasis is on play not learning (that said my children left knowing their numbers, colours, letters, days of the week etc) and the children love it.

In short... my baby days are over and I want to give Ann a special present from the Mars household and I'm in need of suggestions. Happy to spend up to £50 which works out at £10 per child.

Thank you!

Sorry I don't know her interests. I have 5 children that I would happily leave with her and now that I'm down to the final pair you don't want to know how fast I run once they've been dropped off.

NBG that jewellery is AWESOME!!

do you know how her pricing is? (sorry for the hijack, just thinking ahead to christmas...)

SpacePuppy · 23/05/2008 17:42

could you get something for the nursery that would stay behind and remind her of the mars invasion?

amazon book voucher (she can pick what to buy)

Nbg · 23/05/2008 17:53

I have no idea on her pricing and never ordered but dh will be told what I want for christmas

I'm sure someone on here has had something done like that but not sure if it was her that did it and they did give a price but I cany remember what it was.

Maybe some very good searching on here might bring it up.

oooggs · 23/05/2008 17:59

wow mars thats some era she sounds like one special lady

I don't have any ideas though

MaureenMLove · 23/05/2008 18:03

I come up with this gift idea, everytime someone needs something special for a childcare worker! I am, and I was given this by one of my mums. Maybe its just me, but the words say it all to me. I opened it, in a quiet CM moment and cried!

MarsLady · 23/05/2008 18:08

What AMAZING ladies you all are. You come up trumps every time!

How about a tree?

MarsLady · 23/05/2008 18:19

Would I have to:

plant
choose
be involved

with this tree? Remember I'm the woman that makes plants die!

OP posts:
Nbg · 23/05/2008 18:48

Do you have some kind of plant killing aura around you Mars?

Let me know if you get in touch with that lady.
I really would love to have something done.

MarsLady · 23/05/2008 18:53

I've emailed her so just waiting for her response. I think it's an excellent idea and so very personal and unique.

Oooh fab.

FYI, I have found a couple more sites that do it. They are in US though but with them you can scan in your picture and email it to them and they have prices on their sites.

Lime Spider and Magic Dog Studio they are called.

MarsLady · 23/05/2008 20:42

Okay... she emailed back (very efficient). This is what she said with regards to pricing:

To give you an idea of prices a solid silver charm is around £125, a
pendant on a chain £195 and £215 for a pair of cufflinks. I also make
keyrings and tiepins at £175 and brooches at £195.

These can all incorporate the drawings of 1 or more children.

So above my budget but as each piece is handmade probably more than worth the price. Sigh........

Links please Nbg... did you not read that I was lazy?

Mars, depending on how quick you need the present, I can cross stitch a photo of your dc if that is suitable. Or could create a design for you as well.

SaintGeorgeasaurus · 24/05/2008 13:04

The things I do for that woman, just to keep the lazy mare
happy.

Tsk

CarGirl · 24/05/2008 13:12

a mothering bracelet (or grandmothering bracelet) from www.braceletsnbrides.co.uk customised jewellery at inexpensive prices

solo · 24/05/2008 13:15

Again, depending on how soon you need it, I could make a special thank you blanket for her. Maybe put just her name on it, or all you Dc's names on it with a thank you, all in aplique style lettering.

ivykaty44 · 24/05/2008 13:19

Go to a paint pottery place with all 5 of your children and get all 5 children to put their hand prints and name on a plate. A plate may not be used so you may see perhaps a large Milk/Juice jug or vase .

Thing is then the present would be very personel from all 5 of your children and with the size of hands getting larger over the years.

Perhpas a jug with lots of hand prints of different sizes from all the children and thier signatures with a nice base colour.

Nbg · 25/05/2008 12:47

I've had some emails from her too mars.

This is the other site Lime spider

I think its magid dog studio whose prices are cheaper.
You'll be looking at £50 for theirs I think.

I really really like the pendant idea and am trying to decide if I can raise my budget. She's so wonderful and I do think that she's worth it.

Must book some more clients!

Have you checked out my useful links by any chance?

MarsLady · 25/05/2008 17:44

I'm a MAJOR fan of the last link George. The rest vanished from my memory!

SaintGeorgeasaurus · 25/05/2008 17:50

Just checking

Nbg · 26/05/2008 14:16

Ok Mars

Have found this site called Totally out of hand
They charge $135 for a large 2 inch pendant which I think at the current rate of exchange works out at just under £69.
