am i the only one (please be honest) to eat some of your childs selection boxes when you have a choc munch on (they do get too much) well thats my defence.

kkgirl · 05/01/2003 15:30

I started a diet on New Years Day, well I am trying to lose weight and get fitter at the same time.
Unfortunately I haven't been great at it. Last night our eldest ds went for a sleepover with his friend (has never happened before) and it was great; the other two were really good, no one to wind them up at the time. As much as we love ds it has been so relaxed.
So what did I do, ate cakes that dh and the twins made, drank some wine, ate some biscuits.
Anyway I am trying to be better today, but am very tempted by choc bar now. Help!!!!!!

breeze · 05/01/2003 15:36

most of my temptation are in the kitchen, and on the fridge i have a photo of myself (before i put the weight on) and my friend bought me a fridge magnet "little pickers were bigger knickers". i find i am best at dieting when i reward myself, when i went to slimming world if i lost weight i got a chinese on the way home, if you are a choc lover get some of those chocolate footballs or something small that is small, and have a few a day. me my weakness is take-aways, so i get meat out the freezer in the morning so i am not tempted, that seems to be working. good luck kkgirl

no you're not the only one happydays. My excuse was that the amount of chocolate ds was given (now 20mths) was totally inappropriate to his age. Especially as normally he gets 2 chocolate buttons if he ate well after a meal and that's it except as special treats. We got given one selection box which had things like normal size crunchies in it! There is no way I would give ds this yet! He's already been given about a year's supply of chocolate buttons...

I feel it's my duty as a parent to finish up the inappropriate chocolate

breeze · 05/01/2003 16:43

thank god i'm not the only one

I have succumbed. I opened a bar of Dairy Milk and ate one square, but at least I was restrained, I normally think, oh well and go on to each the rest of the bar!!!!!!!

breeze · 05/01/2003 17:12

you are restrained if i have one square i eat the lot. well done. if one square fixes your cravings then that can't do to much harm, with me its probably not so much what i eat its that i do not do enough exercise (and by that i mean i don't do any), i must try to do some, oh and drink at water each day (yuk!!!)

Yes I'm guilty too - up until this year I had the excuse that dd was diary allergic - so I HAD to eat it - unfortunately (!) her allergy has gone away now!

kkgirl · 05/01/2003 17:49

Yes it is quite good for me, especially as we are having a difficult time at the moment. Have just posted on another thread about breaking the news of bereavement. My FIL is very poorly and is in hospital unable to get out of bed for past few days and the nurses are increasing his medication, we don't know how long he has got.
I am sitting here, dh has gone to hospital 30 miles away to visit, just dreading the next few days and feeling helpless as to what to do.
I feel so worried that I could easily go on a chocolate binge and drink binge, anything to pass the time until the phone call comes to say it is all over. It is so difficult.
Anyway enough ranting from me. Good luck to anyone trying to lose weight and exercise and breeze I find it impossible to drink 8 pints of water a day, I can only manage about 1 1/2 pints.

breeze · 05/01/2003 17:57

kkgirl, i manage about 1 litre of juice, which is better than nothing. i am so sorry to hear the trouble you are having at the moment, its a hard time, i lost my grandad on christmas day a few years ago, its a horrible time, you love them so such but when they drag on its hard for all concerned, wishing you and you DH all the best at this difficult time. Take care and if you can not binge eat at this time you are fab.

kkgirl, it's 8 glasses, not 8 pints! This means about 4 pints. It is hard, I last managed to drink that much water when I was breast feeding, and always drank.

Tomorrow I am kick staring my diet with a foul week of the Cabbage suop diet I find this works for me as it is only a week, but it kills my cravings for 'naughty' food. My dh and I have spent the weekend eating the last of the c**p, and had our final meal before a week of yuk. After this week I'll go onto Slimming World which works brilliantly for me, I save up all my sins to 'afford' a bottle of wine a week (usually all at once!!) and a McDonalds or other fun meal. This means I don't feel too deprived.

Anyway I'm sitting here munching on the last biscuits I'll have for a while, as I have about 2 stone to lose which should take around 10 - 12 weeks. I'll be thin before Easter and can pig on Easter eggs!!

ticklebyday · 06/01/2003 09:29

Hi Breeze, I will be joining you in my dieting quest to shed 2 stone.

However, I am on holiday this week - 2 weeks in Lanzarote - all inclusive - bad news on the dieting front, but hey ho (any tips to avoid putting on too much weight whilst on holiday - what are low cal alcholic drinks, etc.....)

I'll probably be going back to weight watchers on my return, unless anyone can recommend a better alternative?

breeze · 06/01/2003 10:02

ticklebyday, if i was you i would go on holiday and start the diet in 2 weeks, it would be different if you had already started, but go away and have a good time, try to make sure you do lots of walking, don't take lifts etc and you will probebly be suprised that you do not put much/if any on. have fun, any room in your suitcase for a little one (well i will be when i crack this diet lark)

As for weight watchers, i would recommend slimming world. I found with WW i was constantly checking points and when your point total was gone that was it (unless you love rabbit food), but with SW you had food optimising, if you love pasta, rice you will be fine because you can eat as much as you like on certain days, otherwise you have a meat day, You are allowed a certain amount of pasta/rice on a meat day and virsa versa. with ww i was always hungry but not with SW. The rate of weight loss was similar, i lost 13 pounds with SW in 2 months, then left and put in back on again, i must stick to it this time and when i leave as well, its not difficult. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A FAB HOLIDAY.

breeze · 06/01/2003 10:04

oh and on the drinks front, they say that clear drinks are better for you and less calories (i am sure thats non-alcholic though, i would check that out when you come back though)

Thanks Breeze

I might partake in the after breakfast aerobics this time (we have stayed at this resort before and they do all sorts of energetic things, normally not undertaken by many of the Brits I might add - far too strenuous), and may be a spot of "proper" swimming.

I'll keep away from the calorie stacked cocktails then and aim for clear alcohol with low cal mixers, although I may be persuaded to have the odd Tequilla Sunrise (or 2, etc...)

I'll take a look at the SW diet, I have tried it before but it was a long time ago - it might be better for me as I'm not one for counting points.

breeze · 07/01/2003 10:30

does 4 biscuits count as a good diet breakfast?, if not today i have failed, how do i stop pigging out all day.

I weighed myself on Boxing Day and again on New Year's Day and I'd put on 6lb. Thats a pound a day. Help!! Not the scales because DS weighed the same on both days. Don't think I've put on anymore since and am going back to the gym at lunchtime. My thread on tips to keep the weight off obviously didn't work....

breeze · 08/01/2003 15:01

well if i am going to go away with my dh on holiday (another thread), i decided that i would like to lose at least a stone before i go. so far i have been good, i just wish i didn't pick at ds leftover dinner.
