What do I put in letter for DS's girlfriend's visa application?

She plans on visiting us (with DS) at Christmas. We are very happy with this and more than willing to do a letter to support her visa application.

But I don't know what to write.

TIA

Are you in the UK, where’s she coming from, and why can’t she get a big standard tourist visa?

Asside from that, I suspect the facts that she has a return ticket booked, and support herself when she’s here, and has appropriate health insurance could help.

She is from Colombia, currently studying in the US.

We are in the UK.

Thanks for your suggestions.

You need to include the purpose of the visit, an itinerary of the trip, plans you have, that she'll be staying with you, the dates etc.

Thank you

Does she need all that on a tourist visa?

We successfully did a similar application.

We provided as much proof as possible with the visa application.

Focusing on how she would fund the trip, the fact we would support her financially (if needed) and also provided proof of reasons for why she would not overstay.

I.e. « Sally » is a full time student at Bippty Bop University in La la land where she is in her third year of studying for a degree in xxx. Term starts again on xxx September and she will return to xxx by xx date in order to continue her studies.

We then mentioned the length of their relationship and the fact we already had a good relationship with her and we were very supportive of their plans to marry in the future.

We also mentioned plans for the trip such as « Sally is coming to England in order to attend the wedding or our daughter Jane. We consider her part of the family are excited to have her be in England for this important event etc ».

We encouraged « Sally » to submit as many supporting documents as possible in addition to our letter of invitation and support.

For example, showing we had a good income so could support her if needed during her stay, proof of good travel insurance for health needs, proof of her ongoing commitment to studies in another country.

Basically trying to show that she will not overstay, she has sufficient financial means and has good travel insurance.

One of the main requirements will be for her to prove that she doesn’t want to stay permanently in the UK, i.e. that she has a pressing reason to go back to her home. Given that her temporary home is in the US, she would need appropriate documentation from her university/college about her studies and her ability to fund her studies for the duration of her course.

Your letter needs to focus on the accommodation you are providing and anything else you are doing to financially support the visit. She needs to focus on the evidence that she has no intention to overstay - so proving she is a student in the US and is on course with her studies there and showing her ties to Columbia - family home and relatives there.
It is about quality of evidence so a long letter from you won't help much - stick to the pertinent and hopefully she will focus on the relevant evidence.
