How young would you take a child to see A 12A FILM

You can take them in at any age with a parent, according to the bbfc website.

Through school etc my kids have learnt of the imminent release of 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". They have already seen the other 3 films, and liked them (esp ds (6) ).

They are really keen to see the next film - they are dd1 (8.5), ds(6.5) and dd2 (4.6). But I'm not sure I should be taking a 4yo to a 12 film. The though, however, of her missing out on the same experience of the other 2 is awful - she hates being thought of as too little and has been to several pg films no bother. I have read the plot synopsis on the bbfc website and it doesnt sound like it would bother her. In fact, more likely to scare the other two!

They have all watched 12 films on dvd at home - Spiderman 3, Star Wars:Revenge of the Sith etc. But I wonder if the big screen is worse. Or am I a bad lax mum for letting them see things like this already, or would you take them?

I'm around 90% sure that we'll be taking DD (4.7) to see Indiana Jones after it comes out. All three DCs have been desperate to see it since it first started being advertised, they love the original trilogy (although that is only a PG) If I didn't let DD go, then I'd have to not let the DSs go as well. In this one case it would just be too unfair (generally I have no problem doing this, DS2's missed out on things that DS1 has seen because of his age)
I know a few people who are going to see it the first week of release, so I'll base my final decision on their opinions of the content. Looking at our DVd shelf she's seen plenty of things rated 12 on the TV before - Friends, Pirates OTC, Buffy when it was on a 6 (although some of those must have been cut, as some of mine are 15s!)

I have said before on here that the Indiana Jones trilogy would not be a pg if it was released today. The new film will probably be very similar to the old ones - they are really scary in parts. My 10 year old covers his eyes in parts of it. However I will have a big problem as my ds (7) loves the character of Indiana Jones but doesn't like scary films - Dr Who too scary for him. I think I'll wait for the DVD and censor it myself.

Wow you let a 6yo see the last crusade? That bit at the end where the nasty man picks the wrong cup and melts?

(Actually that bit in the first one where they life the lid off the Ark?.)

Was watching last Crusade last night and it totally crossed my mind that I wouldn?t let any of mine see it.

Anyway in answer to yr question, I would maybe let a 10yo see a 12A. My nearly 9yo is inclined to be nervous so I might be wary for him.

Tho TBH the certs are all to cock anyway. What made sthg an X when I were a lass (bit of swearing) now is fine in a PG apparently. Well not really but YKWIM. I wasn?t impressed with The Cat in the Hat for eg.

I'm clearly a cautious parent tho.

Anna8888 was it you who took a 3yo to see Atonement?
