Advice on moving to Derbyshire/Sheffield surrounding villages

Hello there, I hope you're well :) myself, my partner and our 2 year old are moving to the area in a month or so to be closer to my family in Sheffield, and I'd love some advice / feedback on the areas we're booked in to view next week!

We love little villages/small towns so we are closer to nature and away from the city, but still being close to sheffield.

We are booked in to view:
One in Chesterfield - Lower Pisley (which i can't find much info on the area)
Two in Chesterfield - Brimington
One in Little Bole Hill - Wirksworth
And one in Bamford - The croft

I don't drive yet (although am deep into learning) so I will be getting public transport for now with our little one when my partner works away monday-friday. Wirksworth and Bamford look beautiful but I'm not sure if this will just be too tricky with public transport? We are home schooling so we don't need to be close to a school, only a good public transport line to get to groups and opportunities together :)

Thank you dearly!

Bamford is a little more remote than Little Bolehill, but both lovely places. You can get the bus through to Matlock & Derby from Wirksworth, and there’s a train station at Cromford which will take you to Matlock & Matlock Bath one way & down to Derby & Nottingham the other. Lots of amenities in Wirksworth also, and the community are vibrant, there seems to be a lot of events happening throughout the year. It was also voted one of the best places to live in the UK 😀 Chesterfield is great for getting around but not quite as pretty. If you’re close to being able to drive I’d choose the countryside!

Thank you so much for this - I don't suppose you know anything about Pilsley in Chesterfield, as it appears to be a village on the outskirts and sounds beautiful (a little more rural and village like but within proximity to good transport links!) I'm really interested love with the sound of Wirksworth too, I just wasn't sure if it'll be quite the trek with our little one for now into sheffield! Thank you for your reply 🥰

I don’t know Pilsley, so I don’t want to slander it, but it’s not far from Clay Cross, which is not nice and generally speaking that area more on the east/south east side of Chesterfield especially around Bolsolver (grim) and towards Mansfield is less nice than the other side of Chesterfield so I would say Wirksworth which is lovely was a better bet.

..sorry just saw you were looking in Brimington too, it’s not really rural out there, it’s in Chesterfield suburbs and not that nice. If you want Chesterfield suburbs then Walton or Ashgate would be better, slightly further out Old Brampton and Holymoorside is lovely.

Thinking of the longer term, your child may want activities in Sheffield ( theatre, cinema, sports, clubs etc) so consider places like Hathersage, excellent walks, climbing (Stanage Edge etc) which has a bus and train service into Sheffield, also train to Manchester (and Airport ) Hull, Liverpool etc.

If you've got the money, try Dore - separated from Sheffield proper by Ecclesall Woods but a vibrant village scene with Dore Village Society, a Festival, annual Fete, innumerable societies, clubs for adults and children and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Buses, train into Sheffield etc as above etc.

I presume you know about snow/hills in Sheffield/Derbyshire so if contact with relatives is very important (elderly etc) you need to take that into consideration. Whereabouts in Sheffield are your relatives?
