Hi all,

So I've had the mirena coil in since the end of December 2023 and every single month since then (apart from one month last year), I have still been getting my period!!! I chose the mirena coil, so I wouldn't get periods anymore..so having one each month is quite annoying. Has anyone else experienced the same? Also, apart from the periods every month i feel like it's really effecting my mood, I've put on a lot of weight and my sex drive has completely disappeared.. 😐

I had the same, only I gave up on it much quicker than you! Had it removed before a year, I was getting irregular periods so decided I'd rather have the heavier but regular ones than the random bleeding!

I know my periods are alot more longer and painful since having it. But I really don't know what to get if I have this removed. I 100% do not want anymore children , I already have 6 kids 😅

I've had it twice, and although it did stop my periods, the weight gain and cystic acne made me feel rubbish. I am on the mini pill which has also stopped my periods.

I had the Mirena coil fitted in 2018 and hated it personally. Lots of women love it and can't recommend it enough, so its just how you get on with it I suppose.

For me though, I had awful cystic acne around my jaw and cheeks that came up within 4 days of it being fitted. It really damaged my self esteem, a 38 year old with teenage looking acne.

I stuck it out with the Mirena on my doctors advice and took ABs for the acne which cleared up eventually.
I also had bad mood swings and depression and lots of cramping in between periods. Bad sugar cravings all the time and so hard to lose weight. All the while the doctors saying none of this would be caused by the mirena as it is implanted in to the womb area so wouldn't affect anything else.
After 2 years of having it, I got the damn thing out and lost half a stone of water retention within a week. I then had the implant in my arm and haven't looked back. Thats my experience anyway. But you don't know how it will be until you try it.

I've had the implant in the past but it just made me bleed constantly, the pill makes me nauseous all the while too. I wanted a contraception that was 'there' but I didn't have to think about, if you know what I mean. I have PCOS aswell so I don't know if this is having an effect on everything. I also look bloody pregnant from the top of my abdomen ugh!! I hate it ...

I had mine inserted 6 months ago for heavy bleeding and I fucking hate it.

Still bleeding most days, bizarre emissions constantly when I'm not bleeding so have to wear pads/tampons 24/7. Mood swings. Lumps on my jawline/back of cheeks. Zero sex life.

Want it out asap and to be referred for hysterectomy but of course my male gynae tells me I'm being impatient, symptoms are all "normal" and I have to give it more time 🙄.

Yes to begin with on my Nexplanon implant, I bled non stop for a few weeks and spoke to the GP.
They said to stop bleeding, they could either double me up on the mini pill, Cerazette, or try tranzaemic acid tablets (I think thats what they're called).
They also advised that taking regular ibuprofen helps reduce the bleeding, which I hadn't heard of before? So I opted to just double up on Cerazette, took that for a couple of weeks and the bleeding completely stopped.
I stopped taking the Cerazette after only that short time and had just the implant and since then I don't have bleeds at all. I've had it now since 2023.
So the implant does take a few weeks to settle down but most women can't cope with the non stop bleeding in the beginning and don't stick with it which is totally understandable.
Again, thats just my own experience and everyone is different with what works for them. I have this implant in my arm and its carefree for me. I'm 45 now so I'll keep having this until I don't need contraception.
