Passport photo signing

I cannot find anyone to sign my passport photo online. I lost my last one in my teen years and haven’t needed one since so need to be verified again.

I have asked my kids school but they are messing me around and look at me like I’m an alien for asking so I know they don’t want to do it. I have lots of family but obviously they can’t and their colleagues have said no as they don’t know me. The doctors aren’t allowed, I don’t know any pharmacists, I don’t go to church. I am friendless and have social anxiety. My life pretty much revolves around my kids.

what can I do?

Children's school teacher?

dementedpixie · 19/03/2025 09:40

I know our school teachers were told not to do it unless they were actually friends with the parents outside of school

Yeah that’s fine but my kids school said yes and that they would email me to get info but they never did. I went into the office 3 times and they said the same thing. They looked like they were avoiding me as she ran off when she saw me 🙈. They could have just emailed me and said that they can’t do it. It was quite embarrassing really.

Your countersignatory must either:

  • work in (or be retired from) a recognised profession
  • be ‘a person of good standing in their community’

I will give the barber a try 😊

I’d just stick a message on the what’s app to parents, I’m struggling with this does anyone meet the requirements and willing so sign. I’m sure loads would.

I’m on the list of professions and sometimes get asked by people who I haven’t known two minutes, never mind two years.

The list isn’t as narrow as it was but the “known for at least two years” requirement narrows it down considerably.

I wouldn't do that for a neighbour who couldn't be bothered to get to know me.

That seems an unnecessarily cruel comment given OP's situation.

I agree. OP has said she has social anxiety and hadn’t said anything about her neighbours so it’s strange that that poster started ranting about neighbours. Some mumsnetters really do like to just kick people when they’re down and project. It’s was an unnecessary comment.

My son got his barber to do his OP so I hope you are able to do the same. 🤞

I had to provide a new photo for my passport renewal last year but there was no countersigning necessary. I went to Snappy Snaps and they provided a digital online photo which they emailed me along with an ID code that I had to put into the application to retrieve the photo. Got my new passport in less than a week so there was no issues with it.

OP has lost hers so a countersignature is required. If it was just a renewal she wouldn't need one

No it isn't. You are accountable as a passport signatory, you actually do need to be able to confirm what you are signing to, if you take it seriously. As a professional signing a passport form, I take it seriously. It is an amendment to my professional role. I genuinely need to have known, for me to sign, the family and the children for at least two years. Would you be happy to deal with a professional who signed anything whenever anyone asked? Regardless of length of time or commitment or knowledge ? I do hope not.

I agree. Accountant here.

I have happily signed for friends. Or for their kids where I am verifying the parent. I have refused where it’s a mates kid own passport and I don’t actually know the kid. (Ie 16/17)

Hairdresser?

candywoo · 19/03/2025 16:56

I asked the barber and he said he couldn’t but a friend of a family member has done it for me today 🎉. Thank you for the helpful comments.

I can really see how some people would not be able to get this done. If I had no family I’d be screwed.

That's good you got it sorted. Are you planning a holiday soon?

OnGoldenPond · 19/03/2025 20:15

You don’t need to have known the child for two years only the adult making the application. Otherwise babies would never be able to have a passport!
