Grrrrrr - Bl**dy Iron Man!

I took DS on a penny hike last weekend (there's not much to do where we live, so we have to be inventive!)
Ended up at Burger King, which we don't usually go in as it's the other side of town, but I needed a sit down and there was a play area for DS, so we went in for a treat.
DS asked for (the BK version of) a Happy Meal and with it came an Iron Man toy and all the details of the film. DS asked if Iron Man was a super hero that helped mummies with the housework (ironing ) sadly not!
But DS played and played with his Iron Man toy and asked if he could go and watch the film. We went along yesterday, only to discover that the film is a 12A. DS is 6, so he is too young to watch it.
Am I alone in wondering why the Iron Man marketing has been directed at young children (I don't know any 12 year olds that eat Happy Meals), when they will not be able to watch the film? DS is very disappointed . Have also noticed lots of Iron Man toys being sold in Woolies, Tescos, etc??

We live in France where Iron Man is a PG-rated film and we took our daughter (3.6) along with DSS1 (13) on Thursday.

She loved it. I don't know why on earth it is rated 12A.

12A means that under 12s can see the film provided they are accompanied by an adult. So it's your choice as to whether you let him see it.

They do this with a lot of films. There was some debate here last year about the Transformers movies, exactly the same circumstances. The advice at the time was see it first yourself and judge whether your child would be ok with it, with it being a 12a. There will be some swearing and it may be scary in parts. Someone posted a link before to the film advisory panel, which gave some indication of what to expect, but I can't find it .

My brother saw it the other night , specifically so he could check out if it was suitable for 5yr old Ds to see.

He said it was slightly scary in parts but other than that is was fine. No worse than any of the Spiderman films which Ds has seen all of.

My brother now is taking Ds to see it this afternoon.

Have just checked it out and we are going to watch it at 1pm today!, Am going to suprise DS! Am a single mum with no childcare at weekend / eves so will not be able to watch it myself first, but will take everybody's advice on how scarey it is. He'll be fine - he loves Doctor Who, so this doesn't sound as if it will cause him any nightmares.
Thanks again all. x Am really excited now! [I'm a saddo emoction] !

oh, yes . just saw a poster for the film this morning, and the face was very remeniscent of the face of the Giant!

...Well I went to see the film with DS and shouldn't have worried about whether he would have been scared or not - because he fell asleep!! , he missed a lot of it but I managed to wake him towards the end so he saw all of the fun / action stuff, which was perfect timing. I absolutely loved the film and how gorgeous is Robert Downey Jnr?!!! However, I don't think I would want a young child to see it and was quite relieved that DS went to sleep! It's quite political and to my mind there's a bit of violence in it, that may not seem so bad to an adult, but I imagine that a child could be upset by it. (Can't go into too much detail as don't want to ruin the story for anybody who hasn't seen it).
That said, maybe I am being over sensitive and there were a lot of children in the cinema today who were slightky older than DS who were glued to the screen and loved it!!
Just thought I should post this in case anybody saw this thread and was wondering whether it was suitable for their DCs or not.
