Looking for advice on useful apps for 5 year olds

Hi. I have a very active 5 year old. She likes to use kiddie apps on my phone, including YouTube Kids. I want to move her away from this as it looks to be utter drivel.

Can anyone suggest good apps that expand the mind rather than narrow it? Lots of the ones I find on the net are subscription based. I would be prepared to subscribe to something if it had true value.

I should note that we only allow her very limited access to our smartphones.

Thanks.

Creative toys. Apps will rot her brain cells.

Teach your monster to read is a good one.

Mathletics is good. Or Timetables rockstars.

But mostly as pp said, just say no to the apps and get her some colouring/books/stickers for times when you need her to do something quiet.

How to exaggerate to make a parent feel great!

Sorry but I agree that apps are unnecessary.

Stickers, notebook, colouring book, pens, crayons, reading books, flap books, toy cars, dollies, play doh, jigsaw puzzles, maths link cubes, Lego. All low maintenance and quiet activities. All these still exist and will benefit your DD way more than any app.

It’s true!

She is very unwilling/unable to focus on creative toys or reading. We have tried hard to get her interested but to no avail. That is why we are looking for useful apps.

The original Duplo one is fun. We got 2 years out of an annual subscription to that before the kids got bored. It includes problem solving. The annual subscription is loads cheaper per month than paying monthly but you can try it out on the monthly one to see if it's up your child's street.
The main Peppa Pig app has lots to do as well, I'd say it was worth the subscription for us.
The Duplo Peppa Pig app is not so good though, I'd swerve that one.
The CBeebies apps are great and free. They update regularly with new things to do as well.
