Hello, we're relocating to Hexham from London and am really keen to speak to other local mums with insights into the area! Thank you :)

Not THAT local (Newcastle) but what sort of things would you like to know? How old are your children?

Our youngest will be starting year 9 in September. We thought the high school system in Hexham would work well for that transition as it won't be easy for him. Our eldest are finishing a levels next summer and at university so more flexible. We just dont know if we should go for house or location in Hexham, we've seen a couple houses in West end but they need so much work and we just don't feel like we've got energy for that. We've found one on the other side of town, further from the school but closer to station, gorgeous house but not much garden and on a busy road. Just dont want to make the wrong decision with our money. So hard when you don't really know a town! Though on the other hand, we're sure anywhere in Hexham will be lovely.

We are currently renting, hoping to buy in and around this area, having relocated. It’s such a lovely town and we’re in one of the surrounding villages and we love it.
The town centre does get fairly congested with traffic, so I’d bear that in mind when looking.

I live there, it's fabulous and the school is great. Year 9 a very good time to join as will be comprised of kids from at least three schools. West End also a v nice place to live. Welcome and enjoy

Thank you! Our son is worried about transitioning to a new school but with starting in y9 that seemed like a good idea and so that's really encouraging thank you! We haven't found a place in the west end, potentially on the other side of town so a bit of a walk for him to get to school. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Just wondering if any parts of town you wouldn't buy in, some huge million pound houses in the west end but we're not quite in that budget!!

We live near Hexham. It’s a great area. I would recommend living in Hexham or, at a push, Corbridge. Our kids found it hard being more rural and needing lifts etc.

The west end is lovely but more expensive. I wouldn’t go for anywhere on a main road, just because you can get much nicer options.

What houses are you looking at? Maybe we can help?

Also, if you want to meet for a coffee with the other Hexham area people, I’m sure we can arrange something.

Hi OP. I don't live there but my parents do. They moved there 10 years ago so I've visited a lot. I'm not much help with local knowledge but it's so lovely up there, I love going. People are always so friendly. I'd move there in a flash to be honest! All the best!

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 05/01/2025 21:14

I'd def avoid the main road if possible and depends where you mean by 'near the station' as it's not really in a residential area

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 05/01/2025 21:16

Ps- it really is a super friendly town with a great vibe. Lots of new independent shops have opened lately and it's got a lovely buzz to it at the moment

hanruth · 05/01/2025 21:41

Ok, thank you!! We're looking at a house 10-15 minutes walk from the station. Going to go up again next week and have another look. So expensive to keep going up and down but we need to make the right decision. You guys have been so helpful, and kind. Thank you!

If you let me know where I can tell you what the area is like. DM me if you want

Not a mum so can't help in respect of schools, but I lived in Haydon Bridge (just outside Hexham) a few years ago and loved it. Hexham is just gorgeous and the surrounding countryside and small towns in the moors are incredible.
I miss it hugely! Enjoy your life there!

Londoner here. I have family who live there so spend lots of time there and absolutely love it. Such a pretty town, lovely people.
Northumberland is just stunning.
