What's the best radio Breakfast Show in the UK

I get in every morning listens to the Capital Breakfast Show in the UK with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby. Probs the breakfast show people know off. I didn't really like Jordan North when he joined (he took over from Roman Kemp and was a big fan of roman and even when jordan joined still did like chris and sian) but he grew on me slightly. People think it's the best breakfast show ever but others like different shows.

So i'm curious to know, What's your favrouite breakfast show on UK Radio. Maybe you have kids and they laugh their way to school, or you work early to mid morning and you have something on at work. Just wondering

Virgin. Preferred it when Rachel was still on it but still like it. Prob helps that I’m into running so I quite like them talking about all that. He also interviews some interesting people.

@greengreyblue Chris is massively minted but not sure Vassos is, certainly not compared to Chris.

one thing I wish Chris wouldn’t do is let his kids be on the show though. He’s fallen into the trap of thinking everyone finds your kids cute and funny.

Sam and Danni on weekend R1 are fab, although I think they're moving to afternoons soon. They'll get proper breakfast eventually though.

Greg is good but Jordan (and Katie) should have taken over R1 breakfast quite some time ago. I miss Jordan, but can't stand commercial radio.

Greg James on Radio 1. Both myself (aged 40) and DD (aged 10) love the show. Greg James is fantastic.

Yes, and then switch OFF when James O'Brian hits. Cannot abide him.

Exactly what I do - 10am, over to Talk with Julia Hartley Brewer.

Vassos is wealthy( family wealth) and his own. Lives in Barnes. Second home in Kent . I like him but a lot of their chat is on a level that most can only dream of. His kids weren’t on the show when I listened thankfully. Chris annoyed me he discovered something he would talk about it like if he only just found out then everyone else wouldn’t know either.

I listen to Nick on LBC. Sometimes the way he speaks to callers makes me mad at him!

I generally like James (LBC after Nick) but some of his rants and navel gazing get a bit much, sometimes, and his (imo) faux self therapy makes me eye roll!

Radio 3 Breakfast. Petroc Trelawney, but he's either already gone or about to go. I like them all tbh.

Attictroll · 23/12/2024 07:48

6 music... actually really enjoying Nick G covering for Lauren Laverne whilst she gets better. I didn't like him before

WomanIsTaken · 23/12/2024 07:52

Today on R4 on the way to work. Keeps me filled in on current affairs.

ThePoshUns · 23/12/2024 07:52

Times Radio. I love Stig and Asamah. If I fancy some music, Absolute radio.

Pashazade · 23/12/2024 08:41

Interesting reading the recommendations. I loved Zoë and couldn't stand Scott when he did her slot in the summer (can just about cope with him in the avo). Might have to give 6 Music a go, not sure I can be bothered with the faff of yet another app to listen to Chris on Virgin.

FusionChefGeoff · 23/12/2024 08:43

Virgin Radio Chris Evans
He has fantastic guests with a focus on wellness of mind and body.

He's a completely different character to the one you'd remember from the nineties

FusionChefGeoff · 23/12/2024 08:45

And I love hearing how the other half live!!

Jungfraujoch · 23/12/2024 09:02

Chris Evans on Virgin for me. He has some very interesting guests and it’s just fun!

Marshtit · 23/12/2024 09:04

i did come back to Zoe Ball after going off her initially and am sad she has gone

FuckItItsFine · 23/12/2024 09:04

Another 40-year-old Greg James fan. He’s like a hug in the morning. Just a lovely man.

Yep, love Lauren Laverne and looking forward to her coming back in the New Year.

I think people are just trolling Chris Hawkins now with his 'Names in Songs'... and maybe he knows they're making them up and lets it go because he thinks it's good radio... I don't find it as hilarious as he does...

I think the names in songs is just silly fun radio, it’s never going to be the most sensible of segments. I do put Chris Hawkins on if I’m up early for any reason.

6 Music is good, I find a lot of the other breakfast shows too shouty and bouncy in the morning, I think 6 is a bit calmer & I like the music.

Agree on both counts!
Listen to Nick Ferrari, switch off when James 'Gob on a stick' o Brien comes on Angry

DurinsBane · 23/12/2024 09:19

I moved to Radio 1 breakfast from 2 when Sir Terry passed away. But now Scott Mills is taking over on 2, I am probably going to go back.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 23/12/2024 09:22

I’m a ‘love him’ on the Marmite Chris Evans on Virgin. Yes, he can be a bit evangelical about some stuff, but in general his energy to wake me up in the mornings is fabulous and he interviews interesting people well.

i also think they’re fabulous at encouraging discussion on health problems, often quite ‘embarrassing’ ones that people prefer to brush under the carpet.

Quite agree. He's the perfect stand-in: 99% as good as Lauren and doesn't make it all about him. I imagine a slight frisson of enjoyment when he plays something massively uncool like Prog which he'd never have got away with on Radio 1.

I switch to Radio 3 at 9:30 which I can have in the background while I work.

Yeah I guess it’s relative. For Barnes, Vassos is average 🤣🤣🤣. I like him though. Apparently when people see Chris out and about the most common thing they say is “be nicer to Vassos” 🤣

with Chris’s kids he just went through a phase of playing prerecorded clips by the twins which were supposed to be cute but were just annoying.its probably just a case of me being so over that phase though.

5Live, I like the news and sport and its easy to dip in and out of, I don't really want music and chat at that time of day.
