DH has found himself in a rather unexpected position and seems to have the choice of 3 jobs, and has no idea which to go for, so please help weigh up the pros and cons of each,

job 1.

permenant, medium level of interest, medium challenge at start and would increase his skills base but could become a boring in the long run, questionable career progression in this position.

job 2.
24 month contract, same job as he does now, semi intersting but has the potential to either be more interesting or could all go very stale and boring, has potential to become permenant.

job 3.
12 month contract, interesting job, no two days will be the same but no future beyond the contract.

For me a lot would depend on the pay, also, personally I would be happier with something permanent. Good luck

Job 1 - if career progression doesn't turn out to be good/too boring he will at least have increased his skills and can job hunt again.

On the other hand it may not become boring and career progression may be better than expected.

But would also be tempted by Job 2.

all same pay - sorry should have said

Job 3 - I'd go bonkers doing the same boring job day after day and 12 months is long enough for something else to come up to move onto at the end of it. Sounds like this would enhance his CV as well.

Job 1 sounds like it could become a dead end.

Job 2 would only tempt me if I had some influence as to whether it became more interesting.

Agree pay would be relevant in making the decision.

LOL.

Guess it really depends on how much of a risk taker you are and how likely it would be that somethign else could/would coem up.

If he too kthe 12month contract how likely is it he would definetly get something else very soon afterwards?

How important is it to you that he does get something straight away? If you have savings that you can live pff for a while, then maybe not such a priority?

Or is security your main concern?

regularmum · 30/04/2008 21:55

take risks - not really us!

we have a small amount of savings but not enough for more than 3 months of him not working

job 1 - providing for my family is a priority - how interesting my job is - is secondary - unless ou are in a financially sure position?

this ves one the freedom to keep looking fr something better whilst being paid

Then I think Job 3 is out of if the question.

The option to take Job 2 would depend on how likely the job would be to become perm, or the chances of finding another job within 3 months.

If not good for either of above then would have to take Job 1 and hope progress. Or look for other job while in Job 1. Remember they say its easier to find a job while already employed.

think he's swaying towards job 1, we need the security, the last 5 years has been temp contract followed by temp contract. We have a mortgage and children and would like to be able to go on holiday, knowing his job is permenant, well as permenant as any job is, would help in all of this.
