I didn’t know where to put this but I hope this gains some traction and I can have some advice. Even if it’s just a hand hold. My friend moved to Australia a few years ago after she got married and this year for Christmas she’s sent me a parcel full of goodies (it’s my first Christmas without my mum as well so she sent me a few things to cheer me up)

Parcel force want me to pay for them to deliver it the last few miles but the thing is - I can’t. Money is almost non existent lately and Im worried the parcel will be sent back

Im feeling sick just thinking about it. My friend’s lovely gift being sent back will be the thing that hurts most

It would be a good idea to speak to her friend, who sent the parcel in the first place, which has already been suggested.

I had to pay duty on a parcel sent from asia

The first thing to do is find out how much customs duty needs to be paid. Either by looking up the tracking number or by waiting for Parcel Force to turn up and ask you for it. Only then will you know whether you can afford, maybe it isn't much. If you genuinely can't afford it try being honest and telling them that. See what they say.

Yeah, i got sent parcels from Asia and delivered by Parcelforce. They usually sent you a card where it says how much to pay. Also you could see if the parcel is on hold in clearance through the tracking info.

The customs charges are normally a flat fee to check the parcel (I think about £15) plus the duty on the value of the goods. But I believe the U.K. has a tax free gift allowance of about £35, which means you shouldn't pay anything if the value is less than that.

I don't have the details to hand but my family sends and receives gifts between Australia and the U.K./EU. There was some over-zealousness after Brexit which meant that some small gifts were being charged duty when they shouldn't have been, but it seems to have calmed down now.

It's bloody customs. We had the same. My husband stepmum sent us a home made blanket for it daughter. She put a high value on it so we had to pay £50 to get t!
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do but pay out leave it there.
I work for a gifting company and if something is sent abroad and duty isn't paid, it will be returned, no matter where it is from

It could be a scam. However, years ago my sister sent me stuff from the States and I had to pay £150 in custom fees😒 Hope that’s not the case for you OP

I had to do similar but 'only' £50, honestly, the gifts weren't worth the postage at all however lovely the sentiment was.
