as she loves dancing (and singing too - making her own songs up), as there is a dance class down the road from here but they got different variations of dance.....my dd is a rough and tumble type of girl and not a gentle type and prefer to play with the boys iykwim?

thanks

tap ? If they do it this young. DD (3.3) does a class which is half tap/ half ballet and loves the tap bit (although does love ballet too !). They also do a disco class which might suit ?

biglips · 28/04/2008 09:36

im not sure if they do tap as ill have to ring up and get more info. ooh disco one would suit my dd.

your dd sounds very similar to mine so I stayed away from the more regimeted dance classes and she loves the one she goes to now

she ALSO goes to enjoy-a=ball classes which is all about learning stuff to do with sport, have you considered something like that

dd is only girl in class full of boys, just by chance, and she is best one in it not by my opinion but the teachers'

here

she might enjoy something like that?

i think the type of class isnt as important as the attitude of the teacher. how she interacts with the children and encourages them to participate.
discuss with the teacher, and go with her reccomendation. if your dd hates it, move someplace else.

Depends where you are - my mum refused to send me to ballet classes (despite much pleading) and I went to scottish country dance classes as she said it was more socially useful.

She was right.

dizzydixies · 28/04/2008 09:55

hannah there is scottish country dancing in our town too which I would love dds to go to but it is on at such a stupid time that we just couldn't do it

am also a little afraid of the costs of the outfits

Wheelybug · 28/04/2008 12:40

dd does her class at the local leisure centre where the disco class is so might be worht a look if you have one nearby.

sweetkitty · 28/04/2008 12:43

I'm just thinking about dance classes for DD1 who will be 4 in July, lat year I thought she was too young for them at 3 but I think she will get more out of it this year. I think she was born to ballet though as she is a very girly girl.

dizzy - I did Scottish Highland Dancing when I was younger.

hannahsaunt · 28/04/2008 22:02

Scottish country is v different from Scottish highland - no outfits for the former which is what I did; means you learn lots of dances for ceilidhs - v sociable and fun.

treelover · 29/04/2008 09:29

ballet clothes are very expensive. so beware

dizzydixies · 29/04/2008 10:19

ah hannahsaunt got confused for a moment there

treelover we got dd's ballet stuff from pineapple in debenhams sale for £1.25 for a skirt, £1.50 for leotard and £1.50 for cropped trousers

its not a regimented class she goes to though so may not be suitable for all - worth keeping an eye on though

treelover · 29/04/2008 13:59

its once they want stuff that is specificfor the uniform etc, the right shade ofblue etc. that it becomes expensive.
dd has starrted tdoing a modern jazz class, for which the uniform is a sparkly leotard with skirt. the leotard is 28 pounds from the dancewear shop. dd thinks she has to have it. i wont be getting it for her. the shiny pink one i found on sale in the high stsreet will havet o do, but, i think if she was giving exams, then she would need it.

dizzydixies · 29/04/2008 14:28

hoping my dd firmly remains in the not bothering with exams category - do these people not relise kids are sodding expensive enough without all that as well?!?

SoupKitchen · 29/04/2008 14:51

Dd does a class at the local childrens centre they do tap jazz and ballet in a one hour session and she loves it - all just for fun no special clothes or exams
Best 4 quid I send a week

dizzydixies · 29/04/2008 14:54

sounds very similar to our class soupy but its supposed to be ballet and modern

tbh their fav bits are the warm up with the ball and the warm down playing duck duck goose

treelover · 29/04/2008 23:39

does she not need the tap shoes then? dd's tap shoes cost 17. and they are not even leather.

SoupKitchen · 30/04/2008 18:59

No they are happy for them to tap in normal shoes, but about half do have tap shoes.
There is a very good trade in second hand ones in the class, Normally exchange for about £5. I think DD's saw 2 children before her though.
