Ok, I know it's corny but I just had to start this one. So, what is then? Mine has to be 'A Spaceman came travelling' by Chris De Burgh - it is so beautiful and always brings a lump to my throat and (now I'm showing my age) I do have a soft spot for Last Christmas by Wham - it reminds me of my youth!!

Coventry Carol is my fave too, although I know the words as 'lullay my child, my little tiny child, lullay lullae lullay'. It often comes up in the service from Kings on Christmas Eve. My current faves are the Phil Spector Christmas album and dh massacring Silent Night.

oh, the coventry carol, that's it! means more to me now that i have my own "sweeting" of course. thanks!

slade - shameful taste lapse on my part... ...

Oh, you've got me feeling all christmassy now! That's the worst thing about not living in the UK at this time of year - no carols in the shops (well, apart from Jingle Bells, which seems to be international but doesn't really count), and no carol singers. At least I'll be flying back tomorrow, and can overdose in the last few days before Christmas.
My favourite carol? So many good ones, I think I'd have to go for the whole 9 lessons and carols from King's College.

Top 3 (in no particular order):
Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses
Fairy Tale of New York - as already mentioned
Stop the Cavalry - (Jonah Lewie wasn't it, Pamina)

And fave carol "Hark the Herald" because the words are about the real meaning of Christmas.

My very favorite is the bluesy "Please come home for Christmas" by the Eagles

Bells will be ringing the sad, sad news
Oh what a Christmas to have the blues
My baby's gone, I have no friends
To wish me greetings once again

Choirs will be singing Silent Night
Christmas carols, by candle light
Please come home for Christmas
Please come home for Christmas
If not for Christmas, by New Years night

Friends and relations, send salutations
Sure as the stars shine above
But this is Christmas
Yeah, it's Christmas my dear
It's the time of year to be with the one you love

So won't you tell me
You'll never more roam
Christmas and New Year
Will find you home
There'll be no more sorrow
No grief and pain
And I'll be happy, happy, once again

Anything off the Phil Spector Christmas album.

titchy · 23/12/2002 09:49

willow2 - I love Phil too - just makes me feel really fun and Christmassy in a slightly naff kind of way!

In the Bleak Midwinter...and yep, the Fairytale. Makes me cry: 'you took my dreams from me'/'I kept them with me, babe'...

Let it snow
Have yourself a merry Little Christmas
Walking in a winter wonderland & even White Christmas. Love anything that reminds me of a cosy American 1940s Christmas movie.

And for carols
In the bleak midwinter & silent night & Hark the herald angels sing & Oh Little Town of Bethlehem
